What this mod does
Books and Papers is a mod by Conczin, the author of the Ymmersive series, that adds something as simple as it is useful: books and papers you can write in. Use them to take notes, write stories or leave messages, and each type has a hand-painted design: scrolls, herbalist journals, letters, dark arts tomes and more.
What it adds
- Writable books and letters with several designs.
- Mailbox: place it to receive and send letters or books to other players, ideal on servers.
- Lectern: displays a book or copies its contents into another book you’re holding.
- Lore texts scattered around the world to discover as you explore.
Who it’s for
For roleplay servers and communities that want to communicate in game, and for anyone who wants to leave notes in their base or write their own adventure journal. It supports several languages, accepts non-ASCII characters (accents and ñ) and lets you send empty books.
Version
1.2.2 (September 9, 2026) updates it for Hytale 0.6.4. It’s open source under the GPLv3 license and its code is on GitHub. According to the author’s to-do list, integrating books into loot tables and improving the lectern are still pending.
Update (October 20, 2026): the author has already published a file for Hytale 0.7 (Update 7): 1.2.3, from October 15, 2026.

Requirements
- Hytale (Early Access) on PC, version 0.6 (file Books and Papers 1.2.2)
- No dependencies: doesn't need any other mods
- For the player-to-player mailbox, everyone needs to be on the same server with the mod
How to install it
- Open the Books and Papers page on CurseForge and click Install to install it with the CurseForge app, or download version 1.2.2 from the Files tab.
- If you download it manually, copy the file as is, without unzipping it, into the mods folder: on Windows, %APPDATA%\Hytale\UserData\Mods.
- Open Hytale, right-click the world, check Books and Papers in the mod list and save the world settings.
- On a dedicated server, place the file in the server's mods folder and restart it.
- In your game, craft a book or a letter and use it to write; place a mailbox or a lectern to send or display your texts.

Common problems
Can I write with accents and ñ?
Yes. Since the latest versions the mod supports non-ASCII characters, so you can write in Spanish without issues.
Does the mailbox work in a single-player world?
It's designed to send letters and books to other players, so it's really useful on servers or in multiplayer games.
How do I copy a book?
Use the lectern: you can display a book on it or copy its contents into another book you're holding.
