What this mod does

Stunning Combat adds depth to Hytale’s melee combat with several mechanics that reward good timing: blocking at just the right moment, stunning with your shield and punishing the enemy when they’re left defenseless. Each system can be turned on or off separately.

Mechanics

  • Perfect block: if you block within the 0.2 seconds before the hit, you take no damage, spend no stamina, charge 20% Signature Energy and knock your opponent back. NPCs can do it too.
  • Shield bash: if you hit with your shield while the enemy is winding up an attack, you stun them for 0.8 to 3.5 seconds depending on the shield (from wood to mithril) and get back the stamina you spent.
  • Crits: stunned enemies take 50% more damage, shown in gold numbers, and the hit wakes them up.
  • Damage types: weaknesses and resistances to frost, fire and silver on staffs, the frost sword and projectiles, with floating indicators.
  • Deflection: with a longsword you can send arrows, bombs and spells back wherever you aim.

Settings and compatibility

An operator can change everything live with the /stunningcombat command. It’s compatible with Perfect Parries: in that case Perfect Parries handles blocking and Stunning Combat provides the crits and their indicators.

Version

1.4.0 (August 27, 2026) updates the mod for Update 6 and introduces damage types, shield bash and projectile deflection. Since this version, blocking no longer stuns by default.

This page has been checked with Hytale 0.6 (Update 6). With Update 7 (0.7), released on October 12, 2026, the mod will need an update: don’t use it on an important world until the author publishes a file marked for the new version.

Checked on October 20, 2026: the author hasn’t published a file marked for Hytale 0.7 (Update 7) on CurseForge yet. We’ll check again and update this page as soon as it’s out.

Version history

  1. 1.4.027 Aug 2026Current

Updated for Update 6; damage types, shield bash, gold crits, projectile deflection and Perfect Parries compatibility; blocking no longer stuns by default

Common problems

Is it compatible with Perfect Parries?

Yes. The author says Perfect Parries handles blocking and Stunning Combat adds the crits and their gold indicators; an enemy is never stunned by both at once.

Why don't my blocks stun anymore?

Since 1.4.0, a perfect block doesn't stun by default. To stun, use shield bash or turn the option back on with /stunningcombat.

Can I turn off some parts?

Yes. Blocking, stuns, crits, shield bash, deflection and damage types can each be turned on or off separately.
