What this mod does
A7-Assist is a Gamepad FX script, Custom Shaders Patch’s feature for controllers, created by Akeyroid7. It makes a gamepad behave more like a wheel: instead of setting the steering angle, the stick sets the steering force, so the car can self-correct using the game’s force feedback data. It has over 110,000 downloads on OverTake with a rating of 4.54 out of 5.
What’s included
- The main script, designed for both drifting and many types of cars.
- A variant in the style of Geraint’s Gamepad FX, geared toward grip driving.
- Options in assist.lua: auto clutch when stopping, handbrake and clutch on one button, and rumble only when the front wheels slip.
Recommended settings
The author recommends speed sensitivity 0%, steering speed 100%, gamma 100%, filter 0% and deadzone 0%. Stick and trigger deadzones are changed in assist.lua; the stick’s defaults to 10%.
Keep in mind
The author acknowledges two limitations: under heavy braking the steering loses effect, because the force drops when the front wheels slip, and the automatic countersteer is too strong. He used it with CSP 0.1.77 and confirmed 0.1.79; one user has run it with 0.2.12. It hasn’t been updated since August 2022.
