Assetto Corsa is available on PS4 and you can play it on PS5, but there’s no native PS5 version: what you buy on the PlayStation Store is the PS4 edition (usually Assetto Corsa Ultimate Edition), which runs on PS5 through backward compatibility. Xbox works the same way: the Xbox One edition is playable on Xbox Series X|S. What you won’t get on any console is mods; if you want community cars and tracks, the version you need is the PC one on Steam.
Which versions of Assetto Corsa are on console
The original Assetto Corsa, developed by Kunos Simulazioni and published by 505 Games, came out on PC in December 2014 and reached PS4 and Xbox One in August 2016. In 2018 the Ultimate Edition was released on console, bundling the base game with all the DLC released for console. According to the PlayStation Store, the PS4 Ultimate Edition came out on April 19, 2018; the Microsoft Store lists it as April 20, 2018.
The stores may also list the base game without DLC. If you’re buying on console, the Ultimate Edition is the one that makes sense, because the individual packs end up costing more.
What Assetto Corsa Ultimate Edition includes on PS4 and Xbox
According to the official PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store pages, the console Ultimate Edition includes the base game and these DLC:
- Prestige Pack
- Porsche Pack Vol. 1, Vol. 2 and Vol. 3
- Red Pack
- Ready To Race
- Japanese Pack
- Ferrari 70th Anniversary
The stores mention 178 vehicles and 16 tracks with 33 layouts, all laser-scanned. Online multiplayer supports up to 16 players and requires a subscription: PlayStation Plus on PS4/PS5 and Game Pass (Essential, Premium or Ultimate, according to the Xbox store) on Xbox.
And the PC Ultimate Edition
On Steam, the Assetto Corsa Ultimate Edition bundle includes the game and 11 DLC: Dream Pack 1, 2 and 3, Japanese Pack, Red Pack, Tripl3 Pack, Porsche Pack I, II and III, Ready To Race Pack and Ferrari 70th Anniversary Pack. If you’re searching for «Assetto Corsa Ultimate Edition PC,» this is the bundle; there’s no need to buy the DLC one by one.
Assetto Corsa on PS5: backward compatibility
There’s no PS5-specific edition and no announced free upgrade for the original Assetto Corsa. You can install the PS4 version on your PS5 and play it, but the PlayStation Store itself warns that when played on PS5 the game may show errors or unexpected behavior and that some features available on PS4 might be missing. In practice, it’s the same PS4 game running on the newer console.
On Xbox, the Microsoft Store page states that the Ultimate Edition is playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, as well as in the cloud with Game Pass (as long as you own the game).
If you’re after an Assetto Corsa with a native current-gen version, the current option is Assetto Corsa Competizione, which 505 Games released for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; it focuses on GT racing. Assetto Corsa EVO, the successor, is PC only and in Early Access for now; we explain it in the guide to Assetto Corsa EVO on PS5 and Xbox.
Why there are no mods on console
This is the biggest difference. On PC, Assetto Corsa was designed so the community could add cars, tracks and apps with tools similar to the ones the studio uses; the Steam page itself mentions it. That’s why there are hundreds of mods and tools like Content Manager or Custom Shaders Patch.
On PS4 and Xbox, the game only loads the official content released on the store. Consoles don’t let you copy third-party files into the game folder, and every piece of content has to pass Sony or Microsoft certification. There’s no legal way to install mods on the console version. If you see sites promising «mods for Assetto Corsa PS4,» be wary: they’re either videos of the PC version or they ask you to modify your console, which we don’t recommend.
Differences between Assetto Corsa on PC and console
| Aspect | PC (Steam) | PS4/PS5 and Xbox |
|---|---|---|
| Mods | Yes: cars, tracks, apps, graphics | No |
| Official content | Game + 11 DLC (Ultimate Edition) | Game + 8 DLC (Ultimate Edition) |

| Interface | Designed for keyboard, mouse and wheel | Controller-friendly interface |
| Graphics | Can be improved with CSP and Sol | Fixed, those of the console version |

On PC you need a modest machine for the base game, although graphics mods demand quite a bit more; you’ll find the details in Assetto Corsa system requirements. For online play on PC, check the guide to Assetto Corsa servers.
Which version to buy
- If you have a reasonably modern PC: buy Assetto Corsa (or the Ultimate Edition) on Steam. It’s the version with the longest life thanks to mods, and you can start with our guide on how to install mods in Assetto Corsa.
- If you only play on console and want a classic sim with lots of road cars: the Ultimate Edition for PS4 (playable on PS5) or Xbox is a reasonable buy, especially on sale, which happens often in the official stores.
- If on console you’re mainly interested in online GT racing: consider Assetto Corsa Competizione, which has a native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version.
All versions are paid and the price varies a lot with sales, so check it on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store or Steam. Avoid key reseller sites: they aren’t official stores, they may sell you region-locked or revoked keys, and if something goes wrong you’ll have no one to complain to.
