As of October 23, 2026, Assetto Corsa asks for 15 GB of free space on Steam in its minimum requirements and 30 GB in its recommended ones. Steam doesn’t explain the difference, but 30 GB is the safe figure if you install every DLC (what the Ultimate Edition includes). With mods it grows a lot: a single track like Santa Monica Mountains is 2.3 GB compressed and 5.2 GB uncompressed. On PS4 and Xbox One, the stores don’t list the size on their websites.

How much space Assetto Corsa mods take up
This is where the game balloons. Cars usually take tens or hundreds of MB, and laser-scanned or highly detailed tracks take hundreds of MB or several GB. Apps take up almost nothing. Examples with the size listed on their Holymod page:

Look at the first example: the file you download is less than half the size it takes up once installed. While you extract it, you need room for both. SSD or hard drive?
Steam doesn’t require an SSD. The base game runs fine on a hard drive, but big mod tracks load quite a bit faster from an SSD, especially with Custom Shaders Patch and detailed vegetation.
Where mods and your data are stored
- Cars: steamapps\common\assettocorsa\content\cars.
- Tracks: steamapps\common\assettocorsa\content\tracks.
- Apps: steamapps\common\assettocorsa\apps\python.
- Settings, setups and replays: Documents\Assetto Corsa.
Mods are installed inside the game folder, so they live on the same drive as Assetto Corsa. If you move it to another Steam library, they move with it.
How to free up space
- Delete the folders of mods you don’t use from content\cars and content\tracks (leave the original cars and tracks alone).
- Delete the .zip and .7z files after installing.
- Check the replays saved in Documents\Assetto Corsa: after lots of sessions they take up quite a bit.
- If you use Content Manager, its content section shows which cars and tracks you have installed, and you can delete mods without hunting for folders by hand.
