What this mod does
Brutal Traffic is the traffic mod by Kass, the author of Realistic Brutal Graphics and Weather. It doesn’t add new cars or trucks: instead, it rewrites how the AI vehicles already in the game behave, so American Truck Simulator’s roads feel more alive and less predictable.
What it changes in the game
- More traffic and realistic jams at the busiest times and places.
- Different density by day and by night.
- Proportionally fewer trucks and buses, so they don’t dominate the road.
- Custom accidents and road events.
- More cautious AI at intersections and merges, which also reacts to the weather.
- AI following distances, acceleration and braking revised in version 8.3.
Compatibility
According to the author, it works with all maps, all DLC and any AI traffic pack, precisely because it doesn’t replace any models. If you already use a pack that adds vehicles, Brutal Traffic handles the behavior and the other pack handles the variety.
Version
Version 8.3 (September 20, 2026) adapted the mod to ATS 1.61 and reworked traffic spawn and despawn distances; version 8.4 (September 29) fixes some files.

How to install it
- Open the ATS Brutal Traffic page on TruckyMods and download version 8.4.
- Copy the .scs file to Documents/American Truck Simulator/mod.
- Launch the game and enable Brutal Traffic in the Mod Manager.
- If you use other mods that change traffic density or behavior, disable them or experiment with the load order.
- Load your profile and drive through a big city to notice the jams and the new density.

Common problems
Does it add new cars or trucks?
No. It only changes traffic behavior and volume; the models are the game's own or those from whatever traffic pack you have installed.
Does it work with traffic packs like Jazzycat's?
The author says it's compatible with any AI traffic pack.
What changed from 8.3 to 8.4?
8.4 only fixes some files; the 1.61 update came in 8.3.
