What this mod does

Long Freight Trains replaces American Truck Simulator’s short freight trains with long consists, around half a mile (about 800 meters), like the ones in North America. It’s made by Eddie Yantz.

What’s included

  • Locomotives and distributed power units (DPUs) from BNSF, UPRR, CN, CPKC and AGCR (the last one only in Texas).
  • Trains independent from SCS’s, with at least 15 cars; they block most of the game’s freight trains, although now and then a short one (under 12 cars) with an SCS locomotive still shows up.
  • Two hidden locomotives as a surprise: a «NAPA Wine-Country» one and a UPRR switcher.

Compatibility

It works with every map. On SCS maps and on Coast to Coast (support added on September 28) each livery appears where the real company operates; on other maps they all appear. It’s compatible with the train add-on of Arnook’s Container Pack. If you want mile-long trains, the author releases Very Long Freight Trains separately.

Known issues

The game.log.txt file fills up with «Possibly insulting license plate» warnings: they’re harmless, because the game generates a license plate for every railcar. Commenters have spotted tripled end-of-train devices or a car with no model.

Unofficial fan-made mod. Names, logos and liveries belong to their respective owners; neither the author nor Holymod is affiliated with them.

Common problems

How long are the trains?

About 800 meters (half a mile), with at least 15 cars. For mile-long trains there's the Very Long Freight Trains add-on.

Does it work with modded maps?

Yes, with all of them; outside SCS maps and Coast to Coast every livery shows up even where that company doesn't operate.

Why does my game.log have so many license plate warnings?

It's normal: the game tries to create a unique plate for every railcar. The author says it's harmless.

Do SCS trains disappear?

Almost all of them; every so often you'll still see a short one with an SCS locomotive.
