What this mod does
Reefer trailer sound addon for ATS is an add-on by Drive Safely, the author of Sound Fixes Pack. It adds the definition files that enable, on American Truck Simulator’s refrigerated trailers, the reefer unit sounds included in that pack, made by SCS Software. It has over 32,000 subscribers.
What it does
- When you hook up the trailer, you hear the beep and the reefer unit starts up.
- The hum keeps looping while you drive, including from the cab, and stops when you unhook.
- For any trailer, including your own, there’s a trick: in Audio, pick the navigation voice “~ Function – Force enable reefer sound,” press the test button and switch back to your voice. With this method there’s no beep or startup sound.
Compatibility
It works with base-game reefers, in the freight market and in external contracts. On quick jobs you may need to unhook and hook up again for it to start. The sound is tied to the trailer’s wheel sound, so it cuts out on some roads.
Requirements and version
It requires Sound Fixes Pack at high priority, and you need to disable other road or trailer-wheel sound mods. The author lists it as compatible with 1.55 to 1.61; the latest update is from September 1, 2026. The author recommends setting trailer noise to 50%.

How to install it
- Subscribe to Sound Fixes Pack on Steam Workshop if you don't have it yet.
- Open the “Reefer trailer sound addon for ATS” page and click “Subscribe.”
- Open ATS and go to the Mod Manager.
- Enable both mods and keep Sound Fixes Pack at high priority, as the author asks.
- Disable other road or trailer-wheel sound mods.
- In Options > Audio, set trailer noise to around 50%.
Common problems
Does it need another mod?
Yes, Sound Fixes Pack by the same author; the reefer sounds come from that pack.
Does it work with my own trailers?
Out of the box, only with base-game reefers; for your own, use the navigation voice trick, which has no beep or startup sound.
Why does the sound cut out on some roads?
It's tied to the trailer's wheel sound, which some roads don't have; it usually comes back when you drive onto grass or gravel.
How do I turn it off with the trick enabled?
Unhook the trailer; if it doesn't stop, restart the game.
