What this mod does

Winter sounds is a mod by Drive Safely that adapts the ambient sounds to winter in American Truck Simulator. It’s part of the Sound Fixes Pack collection. It has almost 15,000 subscribers.

What’s included

  • Thundersnow at different distances, more muffled the farther away it is.
  • Fewer insects in winter.

With Sound Fixes Pack

  • Fewer insect and bird sounds, and no lawnmower noise.
  • Air conditioning sound for the Tesla Model S and Model Y in traffic when you bring the camera close to the hood.
  • Fewer summer traffic vehicles, such as convertibles or ice cream trucks.

Version and load order

The description says «Tested on 1.61». In September 2026 the author explained that it was already compatible, but he updated it anyway. It has to go above Sound Fixes Pack and Frosty Winter Weather. Thundersnow may only work with Frosty Winter Weather. Both mods are optional.

Limits

The author explains that SCS’s snow has no sound file, so it can’t be modified and stays silent. There’s a version for ETS2, and the official video is on the Sound Fixes Pack channel. It’s about 5 MB.

How to install it

  1. Open the "Winter sounds" page on Steam Workshop and click "Subscribe".
  2. Launch American Truck Simulator and wait for Steam to finish the download.
  3. Open your profile's Mod Manager and enable the mod.
  4. If you use Sound Fixes Pack or Frosty Winter Weather, place Winter sounds above them.
