What this mod does
[8k] US Color Map is a background map by TheSimGuy (Tedeschi Studio) that replaces the stock one with a very high-resolution version. It’s made up of four quadrants that add up to a 15,360-pixel image, with BC7 compression so it doesn’t blow up video memory usage.
What’s included
- Solid background, with no transparency, with each state in its own color.
- State names and abbreviations, plus their flags.
- More visible rivers and lakes.
- Zoom in the freight market, the cargo market, fast travel and the company maps (drivers, trailers and trucks).
- Standard SCS projection, so the GPS and navigation line up.
Compatibility
It works with the official map DLCs up to Illinois and is listed for 1.59. It isn’t compatible with ProMods, Coast to Coast or other non-SCS expansions, so don’t expect it to line up with maps like Reforma either. The author asks you to load it near the top of the Mod Manager, above other map or UI mods.
Known issues
Several users are asking for South Dakota to be added, as it’s not there yet. There are also reports that, with the Road Trip DLC, some icons stop showing on the minimap and the navigator, although they’re still on the main map.

Requirements

- Official SCS maps up to Illinois only
How to install it
- Open the "[8k] US Color Map" page on Steam Workshop and click "Subscribe".
- Launch American Truck Simulator and wait for Steam to finish downloading the mod.
- Go to your profile's Mod Manager and enable "[8k] US Color Map".
- Move it near the top of the list, above other map or UI mods.
- Open the in-game map (M) to check the new background.

Common problems
Does it work with Coast to Coast or ProMods?
No. The author lists it as incompatible with non-SCS maps.
Does it include South Dakota?
Not yet; several users are asking for it in the comments.
Does it use a lot of video memory?
It uses BC7 compression to keep usage reasonable despite the 8K resolution.
