As of October 23, 2026, BeamNG.drive and Assetto Corsa aren’t competing for the same thing: BeamNG.drive (€22.50 on the Spanish Steam store, version 0.40 in Early Access) simulates how every car deforms and breaks with soft-body physics, while Assetto Corsa (€19.99) simulates track and road driving with a wheel. If you want crashes, off-roading, experimenting and freedom, pick BeamNG. If you want to race, compete online, drift and use thousands of modded cars and tracks, pick Assetto Corsa, which also runs on much more modest PCs.

Physics: damage vs. driving
BeamNG.drive simulates each vehicle as a network of nodes and beams calculated in real time. That’s why a hit bends the chassis, snaps axles or tears off parts differently every time, and it’s also why it works with trucks, buses or unusual vehicles. Its driving is good, but its real strength is what happens when something goes wrong.
Assetto Corsa does the opposite: it focuses on what the driver feels. The tire model, weight transfer and wheel force feedback are why, more than ten years after its release, it’s still a benchmark for driving on PC. Damage exists, but it’s basic: don’t expect to see a car folded around a wall.
What you do in each one
In BeamNG.drive you get open maps, scenarios, missions, drag racing, off-roading and a world editor on PC; since 0.40 you can play split-screen. For online play, the community uses BeamMP, which as of October 23, 2026 doesn’t have a 0.40 version yet. In Assetto Corsa you get races, championships, track days, a drift mode and online multiplayer; with Content Manager and Custom Shaders Patch it becomes a different game, with traffic, dynamic weather and free-roam road servers. We cover this in Assetto Corsa servers.
Mods: both live on them
BeamNG.drive has an official repository built into the game, plus mods on each author’s page; big maps and vehicles can take up several GB, like Polish Roads at 2.1 GB. Every major version can break mods: check compatibility with 0.40. Assetto Corsa has no Workshop: cars and tracks are downloaded from each author’s page and installed with Content Manager. Its catalog of laser-scanned tracks, street cars and drift mods is huge, and visual mods like Pure make it look even better. None of the console versions have mods.
Requirements and performance
The gap is big. BeamNG.drive asks for 16 GB of RAM and a 6 GB GTX 1060 at minimum, 32 GB and an RTX 3060 as recommended, plus 60 GB of disk space, because it calculates each car’s physics on the CPU: more cars on screen means more load. Assetto Corsa runs on very little in its original form, although with Custom Shaders Patch, Pure and mods you’ll want at least 16 GB and a current graphics card. On a modest laptop, Assetto Corsa is the realistic option.
Pick BeamNG.drive if…
- You’re into realistic crashes and watching a car deform.
- You want off-roading, trucks, buses or experiments with no rules.
- You have a PC with 16 GB of RAM or more and a 6 GB graphics card.
- You play on PS5 and don’t mind going without mods for now.
Pick Assetto Corsa if…
- You have or want a wheel and you’re after the feeling of really driving.
- You want to race online, drift or lap real tracks.
- Your PC is modest or you want the cheaper game.
- Mountain roads and modded traffic servers appeal to you.
What about Assetto Corsa EVO?
It’s the successor to Assetto Corsa, in Early Access, with much higher requirements and fewer mods for now. If you’re torn between the two Assetto Corsa games, we compare them in Assetto Corsa vs Assetto Corsa EVO.

Frequently asked questions
Which is more realistic, BeamNG or Assetto Corsa?
It depends on which part: BeamNG.drive is far more realistic in damage and in how the car’s structure behaves; Assetto Corsa is more realistic in driving at the limit, tires and wheel response.
Which is better for playing with a wheel?
Assetto Corsa. Its force feedback and tire model are designed for a wheel. BeamNG.drive supports wheels too, but racing isn’t its focus.
Can you play BeamNG.drive online like Assetto Corsa?
Not officially. BeamNG.drive only has local split-screen since 0.40; to play online people use the free BeamMP mod, which hasn’t been updated for 0.40 yet. Assetto Corsa has official online multiplayer.
Is either of them free?
No. BeamNG.drive costs €22.50 and Assetto Corsa €19.99 on the Spanish Steam store. We explain it in BeamNG.drive for free.
Are they on mobile or console?
BeamNG.drive is on PS5 in Early Access and Assetto Corsa is on PS4 and Xbox One, both without mods. Neither has an official mobile version: we cover it in BeamNG on mobile and Assetto Corsa Mobile.
