What this mod does
Las Colinilas de Vapor, also known among players as “The Steam Hills”, is a desert-themed map with a small, rural American-style town. It’s a thorough rework of an old map by Ouerbacker that ltntai has kept alive since 2021, and it has a perfect score in every review.
What’s included
- A small town with a car dealership, a gas station and refueling at two stations.
- A railroad with a 22-piece track-building kit, popular for locomotives and derailments.
- Dirt roads, tunnels and an unofficial eighth-mile drag strip.
- Three time trials you can run in both directions.
- Parked traffic, road signs, AI paths and dynamic lighting.
Who it’s for
It’s a map for relaxed driving, testing trains or filming scenes with a back-road vibe. Players praise the atmosphere and the good performance even on modest machines. The most common criticism is that it feels small and could use more roads and background scenery.
Release notes
Version 3.4 from August 11, 2026 updates the map for 0.39 with new vegetation, updated sky and lighting, and tweaked AI paths. Version 3.4.1 from September 9 raises the tunnel entrances so trucks fit through.

How to install it
- Open the Las Colinilas de Vapor page on the official BeamNG Repository.
- Click Download to get the .zip, or subscribe from the in-game Repository (Subscribe button).
- If you download it manually, copy the .zip, without unzipping it, into the mods folder inside your BeamNG.drive user folder (Documents > BeamNG.drive > current > mods).
- Launch the game and check in the Mod Manager that it's enabled.
- If you had an earlier version, delete it first and clear the cache from the launcher.
- Go into Freeroam and pick Las Colinilas de Vapor from the map list.

Is it a new map or a rework?
It's a rework of Ouerbacker's original map, credited on the mod page, which ltntai has expanded and updated over the years.
Can trucks get through the tunnels?
Yes, since 3.4.1 the tunnel entrances are taller so they fit.

The author asks you to report them in the map's thread on the BeamNG forum.
