What this mod does
This mod adds an engine inspired by the Mercedes-Benz OM936HLA, a real diesel engine, to the game’s Wentward DT40L bus. It comes with its own sounds, a custom turbo and power figures meant to resemble those of the real engine.
What’s included
- A new engine for the DT40L, which you pick in the engine section of the parts configurator.
- Custom sounds, fully remastered in version 3.0.
- Custom turbo: the author halved the naturally aspirated power and brings it back through boost.
- Torque curve close to the real one, with a dip around 1000 rpm, as the author acknowledges.
- A 2024 update that improved the turbo and fixed the brake air tank.
Tips
The author recommends pairing it with the ZF Ecolife gearbox from the author’s own Wentward Transmission Pack, because engine and gearbox work together on real buses like the O500LE the author used as a reference for engine speed and the rev limit. Keep an eye on air pressure: according to the author, you need about 100-120 PSI, and if it runs out, the brakes lock up.
Compatibility
The latest version is from June 2025 and doesn’t specify a game version, so it may need tweaks in recent versions. It only works on the DT40L, not on other buses.

How to install it
- Open the Mercedes Benz OM936HLA Engine for the DT40L page on the official BeamNG Repository.
- Click Download to get the .zip, or click Subscribe to install it from the in-game Repository.
- If you download it manually, copy the .zip (don't unzip it) into the mods folder in your user folder (AppData > Local > BeamNG > BeamNG.drive > current > mods; the launcher opens it with Manage User Folder).
- Launch the game and check in the Mod Manager that it's enabled.
- Spawn a Wentward DT40L, open the parts configurator (Vehicle Customization) and pick the OM936HLA engine.

Does it work on other buses?
No: the mod page only offers it for the Wentward DT40L; several users have asked for versions for other models.
