What this mod does

Arcanum is a programmable magic mod: instead of picking spells from a list, you build them by linking nodes in a visual editor on a hexagonal grid. There are logic, flow, targeting, cast shape and effect nodes, and the author’s motto sums up the idea: magic as engineering.

How you progress

  • First you craft the Arcanum Forge at the regular workbench, with rock, gold ingots, crystal and bone fragments.
  • Spells run on a CAD, the magical «hardware»: from the Copper CAD (3 slots) to the Adamantite CAD (12), with more complexity allowed at each tier.
  • Codices, dropped by enemies and found in chests, unlock nodes; the more you have, the higher your max mana (from 100 to 500).
  • Spells can be shared as codes.

Update 7

Version 0.6.3 (October 12, 2026) is the build for 0.7 and declares compatibility only with the 0.7 branch. It bundles Patchly 3.6.2, respects block-breaking permissions and changes the controls: with a CAD equipped, Ability 2 (E) now selects a fragment and crouching cycles backward. Update 7 introduces its own runes and mana bar; the page doesn’t explain how they coexist with the mod’s system. It’s still in active development and the balance may change.

Highlights and things to keep in mind

Highlights
  • A very original magic system: you design the spells yourself
  • Clear progression with seven CAD tiers
  • Documentation on GitHub and an update the same day as Update 7
Keep in mind
  • In active development: balance and spell behavior may change
  • Steep learning curve compared to magic mods with a fixed spell list
  • The GitHub documentation asks for Zima and MultipleHUD even though CurseForge doesn't list them
  • All Rights Reserved license

Requirements

  • Hytale (Early Access) on PC or server, version 0.7 (file Arcanum-0.6.3.jar)
  • Patchly is included in the file (embedded library)
  • The author's GitHub documentation also asks for Zima and MultipleHUD; CurseForge doesn't list them as dependencies

How to install it

  1. Open the Zen's Arcanum page on CurseForge and click Install to set it up with the CurseForge app, or download Arcanum-0.6.3.jar from the Files tab (the file marked 0.7).
  2. If you download it manually, copy the file as is, without unzipping it, into the mods folder: on Windows, %APPDATA%\Hytale\UserData\Mods.
  3. Open Hytale, right-click the world, check Zen's Arcanum in the mod list and save the world settings.
  4. On a dedicated server, put the file in the server's mods folder and restart it.
  5. Craft the Arcanum Forge at the workbench and then your first CAD; check the author's getting-started guide on GitHub.

Version history

  1. 0.6.312 Oct 2026Current

Compatibility with Update 7; section APIs; block-breaking permissions; Ability 2 to select a fragment with a CAD; Patchly 3.6.2; Void creature loot adjusted

  2. 0.6.227 Aug 2026

Compatibility with Update 6; the Gold CAD and Gold Talisman CAD require a Voidheart instead of a diamond

Common problems

Do I need to know how to code?

Not strictly: spells are built by linking pieces in a visual editor. But the more complex the spell, the more it feels like designing a small program.

How do I get more nodes?

With the Codices dropped by enemies and found in chests. Each one unlocks a node of its type (logic, effect or trigger).

Does it work on 0.6?

No. For 0.6 you have to stay on 0.6.2; 0.6.3 declares compatibility only with 0.7.
