What this mod does
Better Beehouses improves bee houses in almost every way. In the base game they only work outdoors and outside of winter, and they only use flowers planted in the ground near them. This mod removes those limits and adds options to fine-tune honey production.
What it adds
- Production indoors and in winter.
- Flowers in garden pots, giant crops, trees, bushes and forage flowers all work as nectar sources.
- Settings for production speed, flower search radius and a value multiplier; honey can have quality.
- An option to pick a random flower instead of the nearest one, and more output the more flowers there are around.
- Decorative bees and a visual overlay that marks the flowers in range (
F9by default).
Compatibility
Version 2.1.3 (January 11, 2025) is for 1.6 and only needs SMAPI. It works with Automate, Range Highlight and Wildflowers Reimagined. It works with Data Layers, but that mod doesn’t show the adjusted radius, and with Producer Framework Mod only the honey settings apply. It’s incompatible with Bee Paths, whose feature it already includes.
You configure it in config.json or with Generic Mod Config Menu. There’s a Spanish translation by Hayato2236 on Nexus.

Requirements
- Stardew Valley 1.6.x (PC)

How to install it
- Install SMAPI first (see its mod page) and launch the game once with it to make sure it works.
- Open the Better Beehouses page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Better Beehouses 2.1.3). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Extract the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
- Launch the game with SMAPI, place a bee house and press F9 to see which flowers are in its range.

Common problems
Can I put bee houses inside a shed?
Yes: with this mod they produce indoors, and you can use flowers in garden pots as a nectar source.
Is it compatible with Automate?
Yes, the page lists it as fully compatible.
What if I use Bee Paths?
They're incompatible, but Better Beehouses already includes that feature. Remove Bee Paths.
