What this mod does
Cross-Mod Compatibility Tokens (CMCT), by Spiderbuttons, adds tokens to Content Patcher so one mod can read data from another, even if that other mod isn’t made with Content Patcher. It lets mods adapt to each other without separate patches. According to Nexus, 100 mods use it. On its own it does nothing.
The four tokens
- Config: reads a value from another mod’s config.
- Translation: gets a string from another mod’s translations.
- Dynamic: looks up another mod’s dynamic tokens.
- Asset: finds another mod’s internal assets.
Each token takes the other mod’s ID and a second value, such as the config option or the translation key.
Requirements and compatibility
It needs SMAPI and Content Patcher. Version 1.1.2 (October 4, 2024, 22 KB) fixes patches that didn’t update when another mod’s config changed. It’s marked compatible with 1.6; the page doesn’t mention multiplayer or Android.
Known limitations: translations that contain their own tokens are returned unprocessed, and dynamic tokens are only initialized when a save loads. As a player, only install it if a mod asks for it.

How to install it
- Install SMAPI and Content Patcher first (see their mod pages) and launch the game once with SMAPI to make sure everything loads.
- Open the Cross-Mod Compatibility Tokens page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Cross-Mod Compatibility Tokens 1.1.2). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.

Common problems
Why would I want it if it does nothing?
Other mods use it to adapt to a third mod's config or content. Only install it if one of them asks for it.
Does it work with mods that aren't Content Patcher mods?
Yes: it can read data from any kind of mod, but the mod using it is a Content Patcher mod.
Does it have known bugs?
Two limitations: translations with their own tokens, and dynamic tokens that only work after a save loads.
Mods that need Cross-Mod Compatibility Tokens (CMCT)
If you're installing any of these, you need this one first.
