Custom Spouse Rooms for Stardew Valley

What this mod does

Custom Spouse Rooms, by aedenthorn, gives you control over the spouse room inside the farmhouse. In the base game that room always appears in the same spot with the same layout; with this mod you can move and customize it.

What it lets you do

• Choose where each character’s room appears, which walls surround it and where your spouse stands.
• Several spouse rooms at once with the Free Love mod: by default they’re placed in a row where the original would go, and you can change the order in the config.
• Reuse another NPC’s room layout and use four types of structure (open or closed, left or right).
• Support for the Ginger Island farmhouse.

Requirements and compatibility

It only requires SMAPI. Custom rooms are defined with content packs (there’s an example among the optional files), and spouses from other mods need to use the Content Patcher spouse room method. Version 0.9.6 (August 6, 2026, 33 KB) is the current version; 1.6 support arrived in 0.9.0 thanks to FlyingTNT.

The author considers it a work in progress and admits it may have bugs, especially visual ones. Its permissions are very open: you’re allowed to modify it and publish fixes.

Requirements

• Stardew Valley 1.6.x (PC)
• SMAPI 4.x
• Optional: Free Love for multiple spouse rooms

How to install it

1. Install SMAPI first (see its mod page) and launch the game once with it to check that it works.
2. Open the Custom Spouse Rooms page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Custom Spouse Rooms 0.9.6). You need a free Nexus account to download.
3. Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
4. Launch the game once with SMAPI so config.json is created, and adjust the room order in it if you have multiple spouses.
5. If you want a custom room, start from the Example Content Pack in the optional files.
