What this mod does
Mister Ginger, by LemurKat (author of East Scarp), adds the ginger cat who follows Jas around Pelican Town as an NPC. He visits the neighbors, and they don’t all welcome him the same way: some love him and others, not so much.
What it adds
- A character to befriend, with heart scenes at 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 hearts, each with its own condition (for example, the 4-heart one requires attending Caroline’s aerobics class).
- A letter from the Wizard that leads into the 6-heart scene, and a two-part final scene.
- At 10 hearts he can live with you as a roommate, with his own patio; to invite him you need one of the Extended Family legendary fish.
Requirements and compatibility
It requires SMAPI, Content Patcher and Lumisteria Tilesheets – Outdoor. Version 1.6.6 (January 20, 2025, 513 KB) is the current version; 1.6.4 was already updated for 1.6.9. According to the author it’s compatible with almost everything, including Stardew Valley Expanded, although there may be contradictions with mods that expand the same characters, and mods that change Shane’s sprites may cause temporary visual glitches.
It was designed alongside The Ranch Expansion, but each mod works on its own. A Spanish translation by mardrest («Sr. Jengibre») is available on Nexus.

How to install it
- Install SMAPI and Content Patcher first (see their mod pages) and launch the game once with SMAPI to check that everything loads.
- Install Lumisteria Tilesheets - Outdoor from Nexus.
- Open the Mister Ginger page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Mr. Ginger 1.6.6). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
- If you want to play in Spanish, install mardrest's "Sr. Jengibre" translation following its instructions.
- Launch the game with SMAPI and check that there are no red errors in the console.

He's not a romance option: at 10 hearts he can live with you as a roommate.
