What this mod does
The Ranch Expansion, by LemurKat (author of East Scarp), takes a deeper look at Marnie and Jas, two characters who get little development in the base game. Marnie gets a life outside the shop, and Jas uncovers her family history.
What it adds
- Seasonal dialogue for Marnie that changes with friendship and touches on Lewis, Jas and Shane. She still runs the shop from Wednesday to Sunday.
- More dialogue and development for Jas, with questions she asks you over the course of your save.
- New heart events: Marnie at 2, 4, 5, 8 and 10, and Jas at 2, 4, 7, 8 and 10 (the 7-heart one requires having seen Shane’s 8-heart event).
- Penny looks after Jas on Tuesdays after school.
Configuration and compatibility
It requires SMAPI and Content Patcher. There are options to adjust positions at festivals and to choose a harsher version of Marnie’s 10-heart event with Lewis. It isn’t compatible with mods that change Marnie’s or Jas’s dialogue, and the story may clash with Stardew Valley Expanded, although its events work. A new save is recommended.
The author recommends it alongside Immersive Characters – Shane and Mister Ginger. It works with Life Cycle. Version 1.5.8 (April 21, 2024) fixes bugs with 1.6. A Spanish translation by mardrest is available on Nexus.

How to install it
- Install SMAPI and Content Patcher first (see their mod pages) and launch the game once with SMAPI to check that everything loads.
- Open The Ranch Expansion page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Ranch Expansion 1.5.8). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
- Launch the game once with SMAPI and check the festival options and Marnie's 10-heart event options in config.json.
- If you want to play in Spanish, install mardrest's translation following its instructions and make sure it matches your version.
