What this mod does
Immersive Characters – Shane, by tenthousandcats, expands Shane’s story whether or not you romance him. It works on new and existing saves, and portrays his recovery in a more gradual, believable way.
What it adds
- Around 380 new lines and over 200 marriage lines, in which he still struggles with depression but finds healthier ways to cope.
- New and reworked events: accepting or turning down a drink at 2 hearts, a real conversation with Jas at 7, a progress event in year three and another about his unemployment after JojaMart closes.
- Marriage events, such as Jas’s birthday, replacing the original 14-heart event.
- His own schedule: Sundays with Jas, a yearly checkup with Harvey and shifts at the ranch shop.
- Gift tastes that change as he recovers, and his room gets tidier as he improves.
Requirements and compatibility
It requires SMAPI and Content Patcher; Custom Fixed Dialogue – Continued and Generic Mod Config Menu are recommended for its many options, which let you turn off events, schedules or dialogue so it plays nicely with other mods. With Stardew Valley Expanded you need to turn off several options. It pairs well with The Ranch Expansion. Version 3.0.4 is from September 9, 2024. A Spanish version is published separately by the author.

Requirements

How to install it
- Install SMAPI and Content Patcher first (see their mod pages) and launch the game once with SMAPI to check that everything loads.
- Install Custom Fixed Dialogue - Continued and Generic Mod Config Menu if you want every line and to configure it in-game.
- Open the Immersive Characters - Shane page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Immersive Characters - Shane 3.0.4). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
- If you want to play in Spanish, install Immersive Characters - Shane ESP following its instructions.
- If you use SVE or other mods that change Shane, turn off the conflicting options in Generic Mod Config Menu.

Do I have to marry Shane?
No. It expands his story whether or not you romance him.
Is it compatible with Stardew Valley Expanded?
Yes, but you need to turn off several options, and the author won't add further support.
