What this mod does
Unique Children Talk, also by Shaklin, adds dialogue to the farmer’s children. In the base game the kids don’t say anything; with this mod you can talk to them every day and they reply with their own lines.
What it adds
- Two lines a day, one before and one after noon, plus extra lines when they’re in bed or sitting down.
- Specific dialogue at festivals.
- Automatic portraits based on the child’s sprite, or custom portraits by day or season; supports Portraiture HD.
- Options for authors to replace the dialogue with Content Patcher or adapt it to other mods.
Configuration and compatibility
It only requires SMAPI; it doesn’t need Unique Children, although they work well together. In config.json, created on first launch, you choose what they call you and your spouse (for example, mom or dad). It works in single-player and multiplayer, and 2.9 (July 23, 2025) fixes dialogue with LittleNPCs at festivals.
It comes with English and German; Spanish is in a separate translation by OchoEsLinda on Nexus. There’s an Android version in the miscellaneous files. The author suggests Immersive Unique Children Talk if you want even more variety in the lines.

Requirements
- Stardew Valley 1.6.x (PC; there's an Android version)
- SMAPI 4.x
How to install it
- Install SMAPI first (see its mod page) and launch the game once with it to check that it works.
- Open the Unique Children Talk page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Unique Children Talk 2.9; on Android, use the ANDROID file under Miscellaneous). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
- Launch the game once with SMAPI so config.json is created, and choose in it what your kids call you.
- If you want the dialogue in Spanish, install OchoEsLinda's translation following its instructions and make sure it matches your version.

Common problems
Do I need Unique Children?
No. It works with the base-game children, although it pairs well with it.
Is it available in Spanish?
Not out of the box; there's a Spanish translation by OchoEsLinda published separately on Nexus.
Does it work in multiplayer?
Yes, the author says it works in single-player and multiplayer.
