What this mod does
Canon-Friendly Dialogue Expansion is one of the most popular dialogue mods for Stardew Valley. It adds around 4,400 new lines spread across the 34 characters you can earn hearts with, written to sound like the original game and suitable for all ages. It doesn’t remove a single line from the base game.
What it adds
- Daily dialogue that changes every two hearts and gets more personal as your friendship grows.
- Around 50 marriage lines spread across the spouses, plus some for Krobus.
- Festival dialogue that can replace or expand the originals, and new reactions to loved gifts.
- An option to replace the zero-heart lines from the start of the game.
Configuration and compatibility
It requires SMAPI and Content Patcher. Each character can be turned on, off or set to random, and the authors recommend Generic Mod Config Menu to change this in-game. With Gender Neutrality Mod Tokens it enables a gender-neutral mode.
You can add or remove it in an existing save. It works with Stardew Valley Expanded, although it isn’t designed for it and there may be small contradictions. If another dialogue mod edits the same lines, whichever loads last wins; setting that character to random fixes it. A Spain Spanish translation by mardrest is published separately.

Requirements
- Stardew Valley 1.6.x (PC)

How to install it
- Install SMAPI and Content Patcher first (see their pages) and launch the game once with SMAPI to make sure everything loads.
- Open the Canon-Friendly Dialogue Expansion page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Canon Friendly Dialogue Expansion). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- If you're updating, delete the old version's folder first, as the author asks.
- Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
- If you want to play in Spanish, also install mardrest's translation (Nexus) following its instructions and check that it matches your version.
- To check that it works, talk to Shane in a new save: his first line should end in "...?" instead of "?".

Common problems
Does it delete the original dialogue?
No. It adds new lines and, if you enable it, replaces the festival or zero-heart ones.
Can I install it in an existing save?
Yes. You can add and remove it without affecting your save.
Is it compatible with Stardew Valley Expanded?
It works, but it isn't designed for it and there may be small story contradictions.
