What this mod does
Platonic Relationships fixes a limit in the friendship system: with marriage candidates you can’t go past 8 hearts unless you give them the bouquet and start dating. This mod unlocks hearts 9 and 10 so you can have a close friendship with them without romance.
What it changes
- Hearts 9 and 10 can be reached with any bachelor or bachelorette, even if you’re not dating.
- Dating stays the same: you still need the bouquet to date and to be able to marry.
- The base game’s 10-heart romantic events only trigger with the person you’re dating. You can remove that condition with
AddDatingRequirementToRomanticEvents, and the list of events is edited inassets/data.json.
What it doesn’t do
It doesn’t add or rewrite any dialogue or events, so some characters (from the game or other mods) may say romantic lines at high hearts even if you’re not dating. It may conflict with mods that edit 10-heart events. It works with modded characters, like those from Stardew Valley Expanded or Ridgeside Village.
Compatibility
Version 1.5.2 (March 15, 2026) requires Stardew Valley 1.6.15 or later and SMAPI 4.1.10, and it’s maintained by Pathoschild. It works in single-player and multiplayer and doesn’t touch your save: if you remove it, hearts 9 and 10 are locked again. It has no listed translations.

Requirements
- Stardew Valley 1.6.15 or later (Windows, macOS or Linux)
- SMAPI 4.1.10 or later
How to install it
- Install SMAPI first (see its mod page) and launch the game once with it to make sure it works.
- Open the Platonic Relationships page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Platonic Relationships 1.5.2). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Extract the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
- Launch the game with SMAPI and keep giving gifts to a bachelor or bachelorette at 8 hearts: you'll now be able to go up to 10 without giving them the bouquet.

Common problems
Can I still get married?
Yes. To date and marry you still need the bouquet and the Mermaid's Pendant, just like in the base game.
Will I see the 10-heart romantic events?
Only with the person you're dating, unless you turn off AddDatingRequirementToRomanticEvents.
Does it work with modded characters?
Yes, the page says it works with custom NPCs.
