What this mod does
Jorts and Jean, by tiakall, adds two talking cats as Pelican Town residents, inspired by Jorts, the famous internet cat. They’re friendly, stand up for workers and can’t stand Joja. The art is by Airyn and the union events are by Arknir27.
What it adds
- They start wandering around town once the Joja rockslide is cleared, and they can be added to an existing save.
- A schedule for each day: the museum, the saloon, the mountain lake or the park; when it rains they take shelter in the Adventurer’s Guild.
- Gifts, friendship, movies, dancing at the Flower Dance and a long series of events, several of them about the union.
Requirements and compatibility
It needs SMAPI and Content Patcher. Version 1.5.5 (March 22, 2025, 218 KB) is the current one; the 1.6 conversion arrived in 1.4.0. The author believes it’s compatible with Stardew Valley Expanded, though it hasn’t been fully tested, and it adds visits and events if you have Ridgeside Village, Sunberry Village or East Scarp.
Digging through the trash costs you a bit of friendship with them; config.json can turn that off. In multiplayer, the intro event triggers when the host receives the letter. There are two Spanish translations on Nexus.

How to install it
- First install SMAPI and Content Patcher (see their mod pages) and launch the game once with SMAPI to check that everything loads.
- Open the Jorts and Jean page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Jorts and Jean 1.5.5). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder inside the game folder.
- If you want to play in Spanish, install one of the two Spanish translations linked from the mod's page following its instructions.
- Launch the game with SMAPI and check that there are no red errors in the console.

Common problems
When do they show up?
After the rockslide blocking the path to Joja is cleared. They can be added to a save you've already started.
Does it work with Stardew Valley Expanded?
The author thinks so, although she hasn't fully tested it; their festival positions take SVE's maps into account.
Is it available in Spanish?
There are two Spanish translations published separately on Nexus.
