What this mod does
Midwest Reefer — Interstate Traffic is a mod by ✪Старый✪ that adds vehicles with real out-of-state license plates to American Truck Simulator traffic, each with its state’s design and font. In the base game, almost all traffic carries the plate of the state you’re driving through; with this mod, the roads look more like a real interstate.
How plates are distributed
- Trucks: around 85% carry an out-of-state plate, and the trailer is from the same state as its tractor.
- Cars, pickups and buses: around 50%.
- RVs and campers: around 60%.
- The other 20 states on the map appear in every state, and neighboring states and the big trucking states (Nebraska, Iowa, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Utah) show up a bit more often.
- Out-of-state vehicles use models typical of their state.
What doesn’t change
Local services keep local plates: police, fire trucks, ambulances, school and city buses, mail and taxis. Trailers are the standard SCS ones.
Compatibility
The author lists it for 1.61 and the 21 states on the map. Density mods work normally. Mods that add AI vehicles lower the share of out-of-state plates. It was updated on October 25, 2026.

Common problems
Does it change police plates?
No. Police, fire trucks, ambulances, school and city buses, mail and taxis keep local plates.
Does it work with traffic density mods?
Yes. According to the author, they work normally.
Why do I see few out-of-state plates?
Mods that add AI vehicles lower that share, because their vehicles aren't included.
