What this mod does
Realistic Weather System is Lionv8‘s rain and storm mod for American Truck Simulator. For ETS2, its counterpart is on the Realistic Weather System page. The idea is for it to rain when and how it really would in each part of the United States.
What it changes
- Ten types of rain and storm intensity: from drizzle and showers to heavy storms.
- Rain and storm chances based on location, using real summer climate data (June to August).
- More drops on the windshield, with more realistic textures, size and physics.
- Slipperier roads in the rain and adjusted wind.
- More realistic spray and mist from cars, and fewer rain streaks.
Where the data comes from
The author cites ECMWF, NOAA, Climate-Data, Wikipedia, Climate Reanalyzer, Ogimet and Meteologix as sources, with data from 2000 to 2026.
Compatibility
It isn’t compatible with graphics, weather or rain mods, or with Grimes’ seasons like New Summer or Frosty Winter. The author recommends setting the game’s rain probability to 21%.
Version
Version 3.0 works on ATS 1.61; the thread keeps a file for 1.57 to 1.59. Last edit: October 6, 2026.

Requirements
- American Truck Simulator 1.61 (separate file for 1.57-1.59)
- No DLC required
- No other graphics, weather or rain mods enabled
How to install it
- Open the mod's official thread on the SCS forum.
- Subscribe on Steam Workshop or download the file from ShareMods using the links in the thread (pick the 1.61 or the 1.57-1.59 one to match your version).
- If you download it from ShareMods, copy the .scs to Documents/American Truck Simulator/mod.
- Disable other weather, rain or graphics mods and enable this one in the Mod Manager.
- In Options > Gameplay, set rain probability to 21%, as the author recommends.
