What this mod does
The AW Astro is one of the most downloaded cars on the official BeamNG repository: 1,587,806 downloads, 550,770 subscriptions and a 4.88 out of 5 rating from 266 votes. Nekkit presents it as the second generation (1980-1990) of a compact from the fictional brand Automobilwerke Wolfsburg: the author admits it’s inspired by the Volkswagen Golf, but it doesn’t try to be one and the design is original.
What’s included
European and US-market (USDM) hatchback bodies plus convertibles, with extensive customization and more than 30 configurations. Credits go to waboll (much of the modeling), TrackpadUser (suspension), LucasBE and _Tanco and Braskus (sounds). Early builds go to the author’s Buy Me a Coffee supporters; the public release is free.
Version and compatibility
Version 4.0.6 «Final» came out on November 13, 2024 and the author has said he won’t keep working on the mod. He doesn’t state a game version. A user comments in August 2026 that 0.39 broke the headlight textures; there’s no data on 0.40. The .zip weighs 352 MB.
Known issues
Doors and hood don’t open, cargo boxes can’t be loaded and the gloveboxes are missing; there are small spikes in the rear wheel wells. Several users consider it dated compared to current mods, though it remains very popular.

- Open the vehicle selector, look for AW Astro and pick one of the 30+ configurations.

Is it a Volkswagen Golf?
No: it's an original design from a fictional brand (AW) inspired by the Golf, according to the author himself.
Is it still updated?
No: 4.0.6 is called Final (November 2024) and the author said he won't work on it anymore.
