What this mod does
Recovery Rig is a mod by wertyoman97 for towing and recovering vehicles or tensioning cargo in BeamNG.drive with ropes and straps that stretch differently depending on the material. You control it with its own app, and the rope can snap if you overload it.
What’s included
- Tow rope, kinetic recovery rope and flat strap, each with its own elasticity.
- Lengths of 2, 3, 5, 8, 12 and 20 meters and strengths of 10, 35, 80 and 160 kN, with a unit switch to kgf.
- 72 ready-made presets and 216 combinations from the Vehicle Config.
- Metal shackles or latching hooks on each end.
- Ratchet straps that tension up to 75% of their strength.
- Real-time load, snapping under overload and a reset button.
How to use it
In Freeroam, add the Recovery Rig app from UI Apps, pick the material, length and strength, and click Spawn rig. Then choose the vehicle and the anchor point for each end; the nearest tow point option finds a hitch or a tow eye. Drag the end with Ctrl to the highlighted point and click Attach. With straps, hold Retract to tension them.
Compatibility
It doesn’t need any other mods. It’s tested on 0.39.4, and the mod page doesn’t mention 0.40, Career mode or BeamMP.

Requirements
- BeamNG.drive 0.39.4 or later
- About 11 MB of free space for the .zip file
How to install it
- Open the Recovery Rig page on the official BeamNG Repository.
- Click Download to get the .zip, or subscribe from the in-game Repository (Subscribe button).
- If you download it manually, copy the .zip, without unzipping it, into the mods folder inside your BeamNG.drive user folder. Delete any older versions first.
- Launch the game, check in the Mod Manager that it's enabled and load a map in Freeroam.
- Add the Recovery Rig app from the UI Apps editor, create a rope and attach each end to a vehicle or to the cargo.

Common problems
Can I use it to tie down cargo?
Yes. The ends can also be attached to cargo props, and the straps are tensioned with the ratchet.
Why does the rope snap?
Each rope has a strength rating; if the load exceeds it, it snaps. Pick one with more kN or pull more gently.
Do I need other mods?
No. Just keep the .zip compressed and delete older versions.
