What this mod does
Smart Traffic is a mod by Oxium that makes Euro Truck Simulator 2 traffic denser and more realistic, with drivers who are assertive but natural and fewer absurd traffic jams.
What it changes
- Density by time of day: peaks in the morning and afternoon, and quieter roads in the early hours.
- Cars by region: fast Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series in Germany, Fiat Punto in Italy and the south, Renault Megane and Clio in France, Ford Mondeo in the UK, Volvo XC70 in Scandinavia and Škoda Octavia in central and eastern Europe.
- Fast cars pass slow trucks and get right back into their lane.
- Heavy trucks stay in the right lane, and long vehicles turn at roundabouts and on narrow streets without getting stuck.
- Merges and roundabouts without emergency braking, quicker turn signals and less honking.
Compatibility
The author lists it for 1.61 and later, with all official map DLCs and ProMods, and compatible with truck, trailer, traffic pack and sound mods. It works in Convoy if every player enables it.
Load order
Put it at the very top of the Mod Manager, above maps and vehicle packs. Version 1.3 was released on October 16, 2026.

How to install it
- Open the mod's page on Steam Workshop and click "Subscribe".
- Wait for Steam to finish downloading.
- Launch ETS2 and open the Mod Manager.
- Enable "Smart Traffic" and move it to the very top, above maps and vehicle packs.
- Load your save and adjust the traffic density in the options if needed.

Can I use it in Convoy?
Yes, as long as every player in the session has it enabled.
What density should I set in the options?
The author recommends traffic values between 1 and 2 on mid-range PCs.
