What this mod does
Alternative Textures (AT), by PeacefulEnd, is the framework that lets you have multiple textures for the same object, building or animal and choose which one to use at any time. On its own it doesn’t change anything: it needs content packs, and according to Nexus more than 1,300 mods use it.
What it allows
- Variants for placeable objects, furniture, buildings, farm animals and pet breeds.
- When you place an object, the game can use the original texture or a random variant; randomness can be turned off in the config.
- Textures limited to certain seasons, per-variant odds and animations on furniture and craftables.
- Its own tools: paint bucket (sold by Robin), paint brush, animal scissors, spray can and a texture catalog.
Requirements and compatibility
It only requires SMAPI. Version 8.1.1 (January 3, 2026, 157 KB) is compatible with 1.6.9 or later; for 1.5.6, version 6.10.4 is kept in Old files. It works with Content Patcher, Generic Mod Config Menu, Json Assets and Dynamic Game Assets, and the changelog includes multiplayer fixes. If you uninstall it, everything goes back to the original texture.
If you play in Spanish, there are two translations published separately on Nexus: one by Vem Tabook and one by Sora GodFallen.

Common problems
Does anything change if I install it by itself?
No. It's a framework: it needs content packs that add the textures.
Do I lose anything if I uninstall it?
No. According to the author, when you remove the framework or the packs, everything goes back to its original texture.
Is it available in Spanish?
There are two Spanish translations published separately on Nexus (Vem Tabook and Sora GodFallen).
Mods that need Alternative Textures
