Cuter Coops and Better Barns for Stardew Valley

What this mod does

Cuter Coops and Better Barns, by DaisyNiko, changes the interior of coops and barns. Coops are enlarged a little so the animals aren’t so cramped, and both buildings are decorated to feel cozier. Barns keep their size.

Options

In config.json you choose the wall color with WallColour: blue (default), chocolate, cream, orange, pastel pink, pink, purple, red, teal or the original. The wall colors are adapted from Coop and Barn Facelift by nykachu, and the author herself recommends that mod if you prefer a less busy look.

Requirements and compatibility

• It needs SMAPI and Content Patcher.
• Version 1.1 (April 28, 2024) adapted it to 1.6 with the automatic feeding property for the feeding benches.
• Version 1.2 (August 2, 2025, 236 KB) fixes the incompatibility with DaisyNiko’s Earthy Interiors.
• Since it changes the interior maps, it conflicts with other mods that edit the same coops and barns.

The Nexus page doesn’t carry the 1.6-compatible tag, but the 2024 and 2025 files show it’s been updated. It says nothing about multiplayer and has no text to translate. It pairs nicely with DaisyNiko’s Earthy Recolour.

How to install it

1. First install SMAPI and Content Patcher (see their mod pages) and launch the game once with SMAPI to check that everything loads.
2. Open the Cuter Coops and Better Barns page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Cuter Coops and Better Barns 1.2). You need a free Nexus account to download.
3. Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder inside the game folder. If you had an older version, delete it first instead of overwriting it.
4. If you already have animals, take them out of the coop, or after installing check that no animal or object has ended up on an unreachable tile.
5. Launch the game with SMAPI so config.json is generated and choose the wall color in WallColour.
