What this mod does
Horse Overhaul, by Goldenrevolver, is the most complete overhaul of the Stardew Valley horse. Its tagline sums up the idea: a thin, fast and useful horse.
What it adds
- A thinner hitbox so the horse doesn’t get stuck in doorways and paths.
- A friendship system: pet it, give it water and food or keep a heater in the stable; the better friends you are, the faster it runs.
- Saddlebags to store items, which you can optionally buy from Marnie.
- A horse menu, footprint and dust effects, and limited item use without dismounting.
- Since 1.5.9, the horse travels with you when you use totems and obelisks.
Requirements and compatibility
It requires SMAPI 4.0.8 or later and works with Stardew Valley 1.6.7 or later; Generic Mod Config Menu is optional. Version 1.5.9 (May 20, 2024, 427 KB) adds compatibility with Lumisteria’s custom buildings and fixes compatibility with Gwen’s Medieval Buildings.
It works in local and online multiplayer, but the host must have it installed. It doesn’t support multiple horses in the same stable with Adopt ‘n’ Skin, or Lily’s Modular Stable garages. It includes a Spanish translation and eight other languages.

Requirements

How to install it
- Install SMAPI first (see its page) and launch the game once with it to make sure it works.
- Optional: install Generic Mod Config Menu to choose which features to enable.
- Open the Horse Overhaul page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Horse Overhaul 1.5.9). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
- Launch the game with SMAPI, pet and feed your horse, and open its menu to see your friendship and the saddlebags.
