What this mod does
Smart Building, by DecidedlyHuman, is a quality-of-life mod for players who lay out their farm carefully. Instead of placing fences, paths or machines one by one, you enter a build mode, «draw» what you want and confirm it all at once.
What it lets you do
- Draw rows and areas of fences, flooring, furnaces and other placeable objects, then confirm them at the end.
- Place flooring under fences that are already down and work with a build queue.
- More flexible placement options, plus «slightly cheaty» features you turn on separately if you want them.
- Text in several languages; the description mentions English, Chinese and Spanish, and 1.9.4 added French.
Requirements and compatibility
It needs SMAPI and Generic Mod Config Menu, which in this case is listed on the Requirements tab. The main file is 1.9.4 (May 29, 2026, 127 KB), tagged as compatible with 1.6. There’s an optional file, 1.9.5-controller-improvements, with experimental controller support.
Version 1.9.4 prevents placing chests picked up with Carry Chests and adds compatibility with an Agromancy item. The author admits they haven’t been able to test every combination with other mods. The page doesn’t mention multiplayer or Android.

How to install it
- Install SMAPI first (see its mod page) and launch the game once with it to make sure it works.
- Also install Generic Mod Config Menu, which the page lists as a requirement.
- Open the Smart Building page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Smart Building 1.9.4). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Extract the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
- If you play with a controller, you can try the optional 1.9.5-controller-improvements file instead (experimental).
- Launch the game with SMAPI and check the mod menu for the build mode key and any options you want to turn on.

Common problems
Is it a cheat mod?
Not by default. Features that make things too easy are separate and only turn on if you want them.
Does it work with a controller?
The main file is designed for mouse and keyboard. There's an optional 1.9.5 version with experimental controller support.
Is it available in Spanish?
The description mentions Spanish text in addition to English and Chinese.
