What this mod does
Mapping Extensions and Extra Properties (MEEP), by DecidedlyHuman, is a framework for map authors. As a player you don’t have to configure anything: you install it because another mod asks for it, for example East Scarp or Sword and Sorcery. The author sums it up like this: without content packs, it does nothing.
What it lets mods do
- Show a close-up image when you interact with a tile, with text, multiple images and sound.
- Send letters in the game’s style, with custom backgrounds, and add conversation topics or mail flags.
- Place decorative NPCs that breathe, look at you and talk to you.
- Spawn farm animals, including 1.6 custom ones, with portrait and dialogue since 2.4.0; they can’t be milked, sheared or sold.
- Indestructible trees and colored slimes in events.
Requirements and compatibility
It requires SMAPI. The main file 2.5.3 (April 23, 2026, 87 KB) is tagged as compatible with 1.6, and since August 2026 there’s an optional 2.5.3 file for Android. Known issue: since 2.5.1 there’s a minor incompatibility with Animal Husbandry Mod, which opens its menu when you interact with MEEP animals; according to the author, it’s not serious. It has no text to translate.

Highlights and things to keep in mind
- Required for expansions like East Scarp and Sword and Sorcery
- Very lightweight (87 KB) with no configuration
- Dedicated Android file
- Open source
- Does nothing without mods that use it
- Minor incompatibility with Animal Husbandry Mod
- The page doesn't clarify multiplayer support
Requirements
- Stardew Valley 1.6.x (PC; there's a separate file for Android)
- SMAPI 4.x
- A mod that uses it (it does nothing on its own)
How to install it
- Install SMAPI first (see its mod page) and launch the game once with it to make sure it works.
- Open the MEEP page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (MEEP 2.5.3; on Android, the optional 2.5.3-android). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
- Install the mod that required it (for example, East Scarp) and launch the game with SMAPI to check that MEEP loads without errors.

Common problems
Do I need MEEP if I don't make maps?
Only if a mod you use lists it as a requirement, like East Scarp or Sword and Sorcery.
Does it work on Android?
There's an optional MEEP 2.5.3-android file, published in August 2026, with a tweak for Android.
Can it duplicate animals?
Older versions had that bug; 2.5.1 fixed long-standing MEEP animal duplication issues.
