What this mod does
Realistic Headlighting is a mod by KK4E38R that reworks headlight lighting in American Truck Simulator. It works with 19 SCS trucks and 4 cars. It doesn’t change the exterior of vehicles or traffic: only your own vehicle’s light while you drive.
What it changes
- New light masks for each headlight type, with a slightly longer and wider beam.
- Dedicated masks for trucks with projector low beams, such as the Kenworth T680, Peterbilt 579, Volvo VNL or Ford F-150.
- Rebalanced brightness and a standard headlight color similar to halogen. LED headlight color doesn’t change.
- Low beams reach further ahead, without pointing so far right or so close.
- Longer light range, at a small performance cost.
Compatibility
It can’t be used with other mods that change headlight color. If you use weather or environment mods, give this one higher priority in the Mod Manager. There’s a separate version for ETS2.
Version
Version 2.12, from September 29, 2026, adds support for the Ford car pack. Version 2.11, from May 2026, added the 2025 Volvo VNL and the VNR Electric. The author doesn’t list the game version.

How to install it
- Open the mod's page on Steam Workshop and click “Subscribe”.
- Wait for Steam to download it and launch American Truck Simulator.
- In the Mod Manager, enable Realistic Headlighting and confirm the changes.
- Place it above any weather or environment mods you use.
- Disable other mods that change headlight color.
