Split-screen in 0.40
Version 0.40 adds local multiplayer. You can start from the main menu (add participants and choose Freeroam or a game mode) or from inside a level, with the Split-Screen option in the pause menu. In Freeroam everyone spawns together at a random spot on the map, each with a random vehicle, their own color and their own shifting, clutch and throttle assists. You can also hop into another player’s car as a passenger.
There are seven modes: race (with over 85 routes), drag, pursuit, derby, drift, rock crawling and soccer. While you play, the game warns you if FPS drop below 25. With lots of players on a single PC, that depends heavily on your hardware.
If your friends are far away, the game’s Steam page lists support for Remote Play Together. This feature streams your local session over the internet to your Steam friends, so they can join you in split-screen from home.

Does it work with 0.40?
Right now there’s no BeamMP version for 0.40. The latest one, v4.22.5 (Sept 15, 2026), lists BeamNG.drive 0.39.4 in its GitHub release, and the documentation warns that BeamMP doesn’t work with outdated versions. After every big game update you have to wait for the BeamMP patch, so check beammp.com before you play.
Mods on servers
Each server’s mods download automatically when you connect, and you don’t install them by hand. The launcher caches them in the Resources folder, inside the BeamMP-Launcher folder. If it gets too big or you have old mods, you can delete it. Mods you have installed for single-player can cause problems, which is why the official guide asks you to leave only the BeamMP mod active.
Some community mods are used on BeamMP, such as Powerups, Fluid Spill Mod or Jump Button. None of them list 0.40 compatibility yet.
What about PS5?
The PS5 version has no online multiplayer. It has split-screen for up to 4 players on the same console. BeamMP only works on PC, and there’s no crossplay between PC and PS5.
