BeamNG.drive size: GB on PC and PS5, and with mods

How big BeamNG.drive is in 2026: 60 GB on Steam, the PS5 situation, how much mods and maps take up, where they're stored and how to free up disk space.

Updated: 24 Oct 2026

As of October 23, 2026, BeamNG.drive asks for 60 GB of free space on Steam, in both the minimum and recommended requirements, and warns that installing mods increases that space. There are no paid DLCs to add on top. Mods do count, though: a big map like Polish Roads takes up 2.1 GB. On PS5, where it’s been in Early Access since October 19, 2026, the PlayStation Store doesn’t show the size on its website.

Official space by platform

Platform Space Source
PC (Steam, 64-bit Windows 10/11) 60 GB (minimum and recommended) Steam
PC with mods 60 GB + whatever your mods take up Steam note: mods increase the space required
PS5 (Early Access) The store doesn’t show it on its website PlayStation Store
Mac, Linux, Xbox, Switch, mobile No official version Steam / BeamNG

Compared with other simulators that’s a high figure: BeamNG ships with lots of maps and vehicles with detailed physics, and every big version (the current one is 0.40) adds content. If you’re tight on space, leave some headroom for the next update.

How much space BeamNG mods take up

Most cars weigh in at anywhere from a few dozen to a few hundred MB, apps and effects mods are just a few MB, and maps are the heaviest. Examples, with the size from their Holymod page:

Mod Type Size (mod page)
Polish Roads Map 2.1 GB
RLS Pepper Valley Map 1.3 GB
Toxic Sand Dunes Map 989.2 MB
Pikes Peak – LIDAR Edition Map 824.9 MB
Ibishu Plus Parts 571.7 MB
2020 Hirochi CCF Car 480.9 MB (.zip)
Dynamic Sparks & Crash Effects Effects 3.3 MB

With ten maps like these you’ll easily go past 10 GB in the mods folder alone. There are more in the BeamNG maps category.

SSD or hard drive?

Steam’s requirements don’t call for an SSD. Even so, BeamNG loads big maps and lots of vehicle files, and on a hard drive load times get much longer. If you only have room for one game on your SSD, this one is a good candidate.

Where mods, settings and cache are stored

All your stuff lives in the user folder, separate from the Steam install. On Windows you open it from the launcher with Manage User Folder; by default it’s %LOCALAPPDATA%\BeamNG\BeamNG.drive\current. Inside you’ll find:

  • mods: all your mods, including the ones downloaded from the Repository.
  • temp: the cache that speeds up loading.
  • settings, vehicles (your configurations), replays, screenshots and your world editor saves.

BeamNG warns against putting the user folder inside the install folder: when it verifies or updates the game, Steam may delete files it doesn’t recognize.

How to free up space

  • Uninstall maps you no longer use from the Repository or delete them from the mods folder: they’re the heaviest items.
  • Use Clear Cache in the launcher’s Support Tools to empty the cache; it’s rebuilt as you play.
  • After a big update, BeamNG moves files it doesn’t recognize into a backup next to the current folder, with the date and version in its name. Once you’ve checked that nothing’s missing, you can delete it.
  • Check your replays and screenshots, which pile up without you noticing.

Frequently asked questions

How big is BeamNG.drive on PC?

Steam asks for 60 GB free for both minimum and recommended specs (as of October 23, 2026), plus the space for any mods you install.

How big is BeamNG.drive on PS5?

The PlayStation Store doesn’t show the size on its website. You’ll see it on the console before you download. There are no mods on PS5, so it won’t grow that way.

Why does BeamNG take up so much space?

It includes lots of big maps and detailed vehicles, and each version adds content. That’s why Steam asks for 60 GB even though the game has no DLC.

How much space do BeamNG mods take up?

Anywhere from a few MB (apps, effects) to over 2 GB for maps like Polish Roads. Maps are what fill up the folder the most.

Do I lose anything if I clear the cache?

No. The cache (temp folder) rebuilds itself; the first few loads will just take a bit longer.
