What this mod does

Better Friendship, by the author of Better Ranching, makes it easier to keep up your friendships with the villagers of Pelican Town. It shows thought bubbles above each character with two key details: whether you haven’t talked to them yet today and which items in your inventory they’d like as a gift.

What it shows

A prompt when a villager wants to chat, so you don’t forget the daily conversation.
Gift suggestions from what you’re carrying, cycling between several if you have more than one.
Options to show only «loved» gifts, change how many suggestions appear and how often they cycle, or show only the highest-quality item of each type.
It can hide prompts for maxed-out friendships that can no longer decay.

Compatibility

It works with Stardew Valley 1.6 or later on Windows, macOS and Linux, with SMAPI 4.1.0 or later; 1.1.0 adapted it to 1.6, and 1.1.3 (November 13, 2024) fixes compatibility with SMAPI 4.1.0. To configure it in-game you need Generic Mod Config Menu. Gonzy42 publishes the Spanish translation on Nexus.

It complements Gift Taste Helper Continued, which shows gift tastes on the calendar and the social menu.

Requirements

How to install it

Install SMAPI first (see its mod page) and launch the game once with it to make sure it works.
Open the Better Friendship page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (BetterFriendship 1.1.3). You need a free Nexus account to download.
Extract the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
Optional: for a Spanish version, download 'Better Friendship - Spanish' by Gonzy42 on Nexus and follow its instructions.
Launch the game with SMAPI, head into town with a few items in your inventory and you'll see the bubbles above the villagers.
