Convenient Chests for Stardew Valley

What this mod does

Convenient Chests combines two classic conveniences in a single mod. The first is crafting and cooking with materials from nearby chests without having to take them out first. The second is automatically stashing what you’re carrying into the right chests.

Features

• Quick stash with the Q key (or the controller’s right stick): each item goes to a nearby chest that already contains it or is assigned to that category.
• A category menu to set which item types each chest accepts, sorted alphabetically with descriptions on mouse hover.
• Optional global stash with the Z key, off by default, which can also fill the fridge.
• Configuration with Generic Mod Config Menu since 1.6.4.

Compatibility

It needs SMAPI. Version 1.6.0 added compatibility with Stardew Valley 1.6 and SMAPI 4.0, and the current file is 1.6.6 (April 9, 2024, 64 KB). Conflicts with Chests Anywhere and Cooking Skill were fixed. In co-op, farmhands can craft from chests but can’t save categories. With Remote Fridge Storage, cooking could fail to use up ingredients.

Requirements

• Stardew Valley 1.6.x (PC)
• SMAPI 4.x
• Optional: Generic Mod Config Menu

How to install it

1. Install SMAPI first (see its mod page) and launch the game once with it to make sure it works.
2. Open the Convenient Chests page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (ConvenientChests 1.6.6). You need a free Nexus account to download.
3. Extract the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
4. Launch the game with SMAPI, stand next to your chests and press Q to stash what you're carrying; open a chest to assign it categories.
