What this mod does
Better Crafting, by Khloe Leclair, replaces the crafting and cooking menu with a much more convenient one. It’s one of the most recommended UI mods once your recipe list starts getting long.
What it improves
- Customizable categories and favorites.
- Bulk crafting: you choose the quantity and see the resources needed.
- Search by name, description or ingredients.
- When cooking, you control whether Qi Seasoning is used.
- An extended workbench that uses nearby chests.
- Optional recipe recycling and recovery of items thrown in the trash.
Optional add-ons
Craftable Buildings lets you build buildings from the crafting menu (they finish instantly) and Magic Workbench lets you craft using chests in adjacent buildings; the latter requires Content Patcher.
Compatibility
Version 2.18.0 (March 26, 2025) supports Stardew Valley 1.6.15 or later on Windows, macOS and Linux, in single-player and multiplayer. It doesn’t work on Android, which uses a different menu system. It works with Generic Mod Config Menu, Better Chests, Item Bags and bigger backpack mods; with mods that add recipes there may be issues depending on how they create their items. It conflicts with Convenient Chests’ craft-from-nearby-chests feature (Better Crafting has its own). Nexus links a Spain Spanish translation by Gonzy42.

Requirements
- Stardew Valley 1.6.15 or later (Windows, macOS or Linux); doesn't work on Android
- SMAPI 4.x
- Optional: Content Patcher for Magic Workbench
How to install it
- Install SMAPI first (see its mod page) and launch the game once with it to make sure it works.
- Open the Better Crafting page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Better Crafting 2.18.0). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into Mods, inside the game folder (on Steam for Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\Mods).
- Optional: download Craftable Buildings or Magic Workbench (the latter needs Content Patcher) and copy them into Mods too.
- Launch the game with SMAPI and open the crafting tab or the kitchen: you'll see the new menu with search and categories.

Common problems
Does it work on Android?
No. The page says Android uses a different menu system.
Can I craft with what's in my chests?
Yes, the extended workbench uses nearby chests. If you use Convenient Chests, turn off its equivalent feature.
Does it work in multiplayer?
Yes, in single-player and multiplayer according to the page.
