What this mod does
Elle’s Cuter Cats takes advantage of the 1.6 pet breed system to add new cats without replacing the original ones. Each breed shows up as one more option when you choose a pet, with its own head icon in the menu, and all of them are designed to wear the hats pets can wear since 1.6.
What it adds
- Up to 158 breeds and coats, with color variations of 17 patterns: Bengal, bicolor, calico, chimera, Japanese bobtail, Ocicat, point, Ragdoll, Scottish Fold, Siamese, Snowshoe, socks, solid, tabby, tortoiseshell, Turkish Van and tuxedo.
- A «void» variant of each breed, inspired by the void chicken.
- An option to change the adoption price (by default, the game’s 40,000g).
Requirements and compatibility
It requires SMAPI and Content Patcher. Version 1.0.1 (April 11, 2026, 1.4 MB) is exclusive to 1.6. You choose the available breeds in the config.json; the mod includes an example and a config with every option. It’s compatible with Alternative Textures, and that framework’s scissors work on pets without an extra pack.
In multiplayer, every player must have the mod with the same breeds enabled to avoid errors or crashes. The author has equivalent versions for dogs, horses and farm animals.

How to install it
- Install SMAPI and Content Patcher first (see their mod pages) and launch the game once with SMAPI to make sure everything loads.
- Open the Elle's Cuter Cats page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Cuter Cats 1.0.1). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
- Launch the game once with SMAPI so the config.json is generated, close it and enable the breeds you want in it (you can start from the included example).
- In the game, the new breeds show up when you choose or adopt a pet.

Common problems
Does it replace my current cat?
No. It adds new breeds through the 1.6 pet system; the original cats are still available.
How much does it cost to adopt a new cat?
By default, the same as in the game (40,000g), but you can change the price in the config.json.
Is there a version for dogs?
Yes. The author publishes Elle's Cuter Dogs separately, plus horses and farm animals.
