What this mod does
Lurking in the Dark, by 7thAxis, adds Sen, a shadow being who comes out of the mines, meets Krobus and ends up living in a cave beneath the inn in East Scarp. It’s one of the most popular add-on NPCs for that expansion.
What it adds
- A story told over 9 events, a randomized schedule and dynamic dialogue.
- Romance: you can date Sen and, once their story is done, marry him or invite him to live with you; there’s a platonic option with a void pendant.
- Festival costumes and a secret forage item after the 14-heart event.
- Lots of options: pacifist mode, having shadow children, time between events, portrait style or a romantic nickname.
Requirements and compatibility
It requires SMAPI, Content Patcher and East Scarp; Generic Mod Config Menu is optional. The 3.0.11 main file (November 5, 2025, 6.8 MB) is only for East Scarp Remastered; for East Scarp 2.0 there’s an older version in the miscellaneous files. Version 3.0.11 removed the DaisyNiko’s Tilesheets dependency.
It works in multiplayer, although farmhands have to wait for the host to complete the story. There’s no mobile support in the current version. Polyamory Sweet and Free Love may cause relationship errors. A Spanish translation by Aday494 is available on Nexus.

How to install it
- Install SMAPI and Content Patcher first (see their mod pages) and launch the game once with SMAPI to check that everything loads.
- Install East Scarp (see its mod page) and make sure you have the Remastered version.
- Open the Lurking in the Dark page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Lurking in the Dark (ESR) 3.0.11). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
- If you want to play in Spanish, install Aday494's translation following its instructions and make sure it matches your version.
- Launch the game with SMAPI and check that there are no red errors in the console.

Do I need East Scarp?
Yes. The main file is for East Scarp Remastered; for East Scarp 2.0 there's a separate older version.
