Settings: what’s official
GIANTS Software hasn’t published recommended settings for the Steam Deck (we couldn’t find any on its official channels), and Valve says the defaults already perform well. So the starting point is to play it as it comes. If you want more battery life, cap the FPS from the Quick Access menu (the ··· button), under Performance. To read menus more easily, the Deck itself has a magnifier in its accessibility options, which helps with the small text Valve points out.
How to install FS25 mods on the Steam Deck
From the ModHub, without leaving Gaming Mode
This is the easiest way. From the main menu, open the ModHub, pick the mod and download it: the game saves it to its folder and tells you if it needs other mods. Then, when you create or load a savegame, tick it on the mod selection screen. In FS25, mods are enabled per savegame, not for the whole game.
Mods from outside the ModHub (Desktop Mode)
- Steam button, Power menu, Switch to Desktop.
- Download the mod from its author’s official page. It comes as a .zip: don’t unzip or rename it.
- Open Dolphin and press Ctrl + H to show hidden folders.
- Go to
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2300320/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/FarmingSimulator2025/modsand copy the .zip there. - Go back to Gaming Mode and enable it when you load your savegame.
That path is the equivalent of Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2025\mods on Windows, but inside the game’s Proton prefix (compatdata/2300320). If FS25 is on the microSD card, compatdata is in the card’s library. The same FarmingSimulator2025 folder holds log.txt, the log where you look for mod errors.
Popular mods like Courseplay or AutoDrive are PC and Mac only; since the Deck runs the PC version, you install them the same way. AutoDrive is downloaded from its official GitHub, and Courseplay requires the latest game patch.
Limitations
- Big maps and lots of mods. Valve doesn’t test mods. Detailed maps, complex production chains and dozens of mods mean longer loading times and lower performance.
- Small text. It’s more noticeable in the mod menus and in script interfaces.
- Storage. On top of the game (50 GB), add the DLC and mods; the microSD card loads more slowly than internal storage.
- Multiplayer. Every player needs the same mod versions as the savegame.
