What this mod does
DeepWoods, by Max Makes Mods, adds a deep forest that’s procedurally generated: it doesn’t use fixed maps, so every save gets a different one. It works like the mines, but with wood as the main resource, and it grows back.
How it works
- It’s designed for the late game: monsters get stronger on the deeper levels and the author advises against going in early.
- From level 2 on you can get lost: going back may take you to a new level, and levels change every so often. To get out you need a Warp Totem or something similar.
- Once you get past level 20, the Wizard sends you a letter that unlocks an obelisk to travel to the deepest level you’ve reached.
- Monster-free clearings may hide treasure, an iridium tree, a fountain or a unicorn that gives you a Stardrop.
Requirements and compatibility
It only requires SMAPI. Version 4.3.1-beta (January 9, 2026, 646 KB) requires Stardew Valley 1.6.9 or later. It works in online multiplayer, but not in split-screen. The author lists Stardew Valley Expanded and Expanded Woods as compatible; Save Anywhere causes crashes. Generation, resources and monster strength are adjusted in config.json. Elle’s Seasonal Buildings includes matching textures. A Spanish translation is published separately.

How to install it
- Install SMAPI first (see its mod page) and launch the game once with it to check that it works.
- Open the DeepWoods page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (DeepWoodsMod-4.3.1-beta.zip). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Unzip the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
- Launch the game once with SMAPI so config.json is generated, and adjust the difficulty in it if you need to.
- Enter the forest from the Secret Woods and always carry a Warp Totem so you can get out.

Common problems
Where's the entrance?
In the Secret Woods. From there you go down level by level, like in the mines.
Does it work in multiplayer?
Online, yes; split-screen is broken and the author is looking for a fix.
Is it for beginners?
No. Monsters get stronger the deeper you go, and the author recommends going in during the late game.
