Here are 17 mods that expand Stardew Valley: new towns with dozens of NPCs, areas to explore, dungeons, romances and hundreds of events, like Stardew Valley Expanded, Ridgeside Village or East Scarp. They're all for 1.6 on PC (the latest version is 1.6.15) with SMAPI, and each mod page lists the minimum version, the dependencies and the link to the official download.

The best Stardew Valley expansions to start with

  • Stardew Valley Expanded: the big expansion, with 28 NPCs, 58 locations, 278 events, 43 fish, new farms and music. Version 1.15.11.
  • Ridgeside Village: a new town with over 50 NPCs, romances, shops, festivals, quests and its own music. Version 2.5.17 for 1.6.9 or later.
  • East Scarp: a new town with marriageable NPCs, over 100 events, requests and areas like Lore's Cove. Version 3.0.9 (East Scarp Remastered).
  • Sunberry Village: a town south of Pelican Town with over 15 NPCs, over 80 events and its own mines. Version 1.1.2 for 1.6.15 or later; it doesn't work on Android.
  • Sword and Sorcery: a fantasy expansion for East Scarp, with three romances, five skills with spells and a 30-floor dungeon with a final boss.
  • Lumisteria Visit Mount Vapius: a mountain expansion with the village of Glimsap, a market and a nature reserve with a museum. Version 2.0.0 from February 2026.
  • Stardew Aquarium: a new aquarium and beach you reach by train. Donate fish, fill the tanks and unlock rewards.
  • Downtown Zuzu: an entire city, Zuzu City, with a resort, an airport, shops and marriageable NPCs. Version 0.9.4, still in beta.

Dependencies and saves: what you should know

  • Frameworks: besides SMAPI and Content Patcher, the big expansions require other frameworks. SVE, Ridgeside and East Scarp need Farm Type Manager; Ridgeside, East Scarp and Sword and Sorcery need SpaceCore; and East Scarp and Sword and Sorcery need MEEP. Install exactly what each mod page asks for.
  • Mods that depend on another expansion: Sword and Sorcery is played inside East Scarp, and some NPCs live in expansions, like Nora in East Scarp or the ones from Always Raining in the Valley in Sunberry. To use them you need the base expansion.
  • Back up your save: make a copy of your save before adding or removing an expansion, because removing one mid-playthrough can leave errors in the save file.
  • Multiplayer: expansions change the world, so all players must have them in the same version.

Frequently asked questions

What's the best Stardew Valley expansion?

Stardew Valley Expanded is the most complete, with 28 NPCs, 58 locations and 278 events. If you want a whole new town, Ridgeside Village and East Scarp are the biggest alternatives.

What do I need to install Stardew Valley Expanded?

SMAPI, Content Patcher and the frameworks listed on its mod page, including Farm Type Manager. They all go in the game's Mods folder.

Do expansions work on Android?

Not all of them. Sunberry Village, for example, doesn't work on Android, and SMAPI for Android lags behind the PC version. There are no mods on Switch, PS4 and Xbox One.

Can I play an expansion in multiplayer?

Yes, as long as all players have the same expansion, in the same version, and the same version of the game and SMAPI.
