What this mod does
Json Assets (JA), by spacechase0, is one of the oldest frameworks in Stardew Valley: according to Nexus, more than 1,000 mods use it. It lets content packs add new content to the game without any coding, using only text files. On its own it does nothing.
What packs can add
- Crops (including giant ones) and fruit trees.
- Items, craftable big objects and cooking or crafting recipes.
- Hats, clothing, boots and weapons.
Requirements and compatibility
It needs SMAPI, SpaceCore and Expanded Preconditions Utility. Version 1.11.11 (October 18, 2025, 165 KB) is for 1.6.14 and includes fixes by Elizabeth. The page says it works on Windows, macOS and Linux, in single-player and multiplayer, and the Nexus tag marks it as compatible with Android.
Since 1.6, Content Patcher can add items directly, so many newer mods no longer require it. Only install it if a mod needs it: each mod’s requirements list will tell you. Before uninstalling it, the author asks you to remove the content it added from your game, so you don’t leave broken items in your save.

Update for 1.6
Common problems
Is it still needed in 1.6?
Only if a mod asks for it. Many newer mods add items with Content Patcher, but quite a few classic packs still depend on Json Assets.
Does it work in multiplayer?
Yes, the page says it works in single-player and multiplayer.
Can I remove it safely?
The author asks you to first remove, in-game, the content its packs added; otherwise you may be left with error items.
