What this mod does
Visible Fish lets you see the fish you can catch right now in the water: if a fish is available at that location, at that time and in that weather, it shows up swimming. It’s a very visual way to know what’s in each area without checking the wiki, and it brings rivers, lakes and the ocean to life.
How it works
- It uses the fish tank sprites, so only fish that have one are shown.
- It works with modded areas and fish: Ridgeside Village, Stardew Valley Expanded and More New Fish have sprites for all their fish.
- It can also show trash and special catchable items, such as paintings or furniture.
- The config lets you adjust how many fish are shown.
Compatibility
Version 0.4.2 (May 22, 2024) is for Stardew Valley 1.6 and only needs SMAPI. That version fixed a multiplayer issue and the mod ignoring the Magic Bait requirement. Its Android tag is from 1.5, not 1.6.
The author stresses that it’s a purely visual change: fishing works exactly the same. It pairs well with Fishing Info Overlays, which gives percentages. It has no Spanish translation, but it doesn’t display any text.

Requirements

How to install it
- Install SMAPI first (see its mod page) and launch the game once with it to make sure it works.
- Open the Visible Fish page on Nexus Mods, go to the Files tab and click Manual download on the main file (Visible FIsh 0.4.2). You need a free Nexus account to download.
- Extract the .zip outside the game folder and move the resulting folder into the Mods folder, inside the game folder.
- Launch the game with SMAPI and head to a river or the ocean: you'll see the fish you can catch there right now swimming around.

Common problems
Does it make fishing easier?
It doesn't change the fishing mechanics: it only shows which fish are available.
Why can't I see some modded fish?
Only fish with a fish tank sprite appear. RSV, SVE and More New Fish have them for all their fish.
Does it work on Android?
The Android tag is from version 1.5 of the game; the page doesn't say for 1.6.
