As of October 23, 2026, Farming Simulator 25 is the better buy if you have a modern PC, a PS5 or an Xbox Series: it brings a new graphics engine (GIANTS Engine 10), an East Asian map with rice paddies, water buffalo and goats, GPS-assisted steering, and tornadoes and hail that damage your crops. Farming Simulator 22 is only worth it if you play on PS4 or Xbox One, where FS25 doesn’t exist, if your PC is modest (it asks for a GTX 660 versus a GTX 1050 Ti) or if you want the cheaper game with a finished DLC and mod catalog: it costs €19.99 on Steam Spain versus €29.99 for FS25.

What’s really new in FS25
Stripping away the marketing, this is what FS25 actually changes compared to FS22:
- New engine. GIANTS Engine 10 improves graphics and physics; it’s the reason it needs a beefier machine.
- East Asia. One of the three environments has rice paddies next to a port city, with two types of rice and water buffalo.
- More crops and animals. Spinach, peas, green beans and greenhouse vegetables; goats and baby animals.
- GPS and automation. GPS-assisted steering comes built in; in FS22 you relied on mods.
- Weather with consequences. Tornadoes and hail that affect your crops, and wheel ruts that deform the ground.
FS22, on the other hand, already had seasons with winter, production chains, forestry, greenhouses and beehives. If that’s what interests you most, FS22 is still a complete game.
Requirements: the most noticeable jump
FS25 asks for DirectX 12, 3 GB of VRAM and 50 GB of free space; FS22 makes do with DirectX 11, 2 GB of VRAM and 35 GB. In practice, a laptop or PC from eight or ten years ago that runs FS22 may not meet FS25’s minimum. Both have a native Mac version and neither has one for Linux. If you’re unsure, compare your machine with the minimums in the table before buying.
Mods: each game has its own ModHub
Both have an in-game ModHub with free mods reviewed by GIANTS, and on PC you can also install .zip files in the mods folder. But FS22 mods don’t work in FS25: each author has to adapt them and release them again. FS22 has a huge, stable catalog because no new game is being built on top of it anymore; the FS25 ModHub passed 4,500 mods in January 2026 and keeps growing. Key tools exist in both: CoursePlay and AutoDrive in FS25, and Courseplay for FS22; Precision Farming is also in both.
On console, in both games, there are only ModHub mods and no scripts, so CoursePlay and AutoDrive are PC and Mac only.
Consoles: the deciding difference for many players
FS25 is only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (plus the Switch 2 Signature Edition, single-player and without crossplay). If you have a PS4 or Xbox One, FS22 is the latest Farming Simulator you can play. Pick Farming Simulator 25 if…
- You have a PS5, an Xbox Series X|S or a PC that comfortably meets the minimums.
- You want the game that’s getting new expansions, DLC and mods.
- Rice, buffalo, goats and the Asian environment appeal to you.
- You prefer built-in GPS and modern graphics.
Pick Farming Simulator 22 if…
- You play on PS4 or Xbox One.
- Your PC doesn’t reach a GTX 1050 Ti or you’re short on disk space.
- You’re after the lowest price or a complete DLC catalog.
- You play online with friends who are still on FS22.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth upgrading from FS22 to FS25?
If you have a compatible PC or console, yes: the engine, the Asian environment, GPS and the weather are real changes. If you play on PS4 or Xbox One, you can’t, and if you rely on specific FS22 mods, check first whether they already exist for FS25.
Can I transfer my FS22 savegame to FS25?
No. Savegames can’t be transferred between the two games, or between platforms either.
Do FS22 mods work in FS25?
Not directly. Each mod has to be adapted by its author and released for FS25. Always look for the version for your game on the ModHub or on the author’s page.
Can you play online between FS22 and FS25?
No. Each game has its own multiplayer. Within each one, though, there’s crossplay between PC, Mac and compatible consoles.
Is FS25 coming to PS4 or Xbox One?
No. On console, GIANTS released it only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, plus PC and Mac. On PS4 and Xbox One, the latest one is FS22.
