ETS2 car mods: the best ones for 1.61

Euro Truck Simulator 2 doesn’t come with official drivable cars: to drive a passenger car or an SUV in ETS2 1.61 you need a mod. The best are Nimit’s, like the Porsche 911 Turbo S, the BMW M5 G90, the Mercedes S-Class W223 or the Toyota Land Cruiser 300: they’re free, updated to 1.61 and bought at the mod dealer just like any other truck. In this guide you’ll find 17 ETS2 car mods by type, with their version, file size and what you should know before installing them.

Are there official cars in ETS2?

No. SCS Software brought cars to American Truck Simulator with Road Trip: Ford, a DLC released on September 29, 2026 that unlocks Car Mode and four drivable Fords. That announcement doesn’t mention Euro Truck Simulator 2. In ETS2, the official news in non-truck vehicles is the buses from the Coaches DLC, which we cover in buses in ETS2. The current stable version of ETS2 is 1.61, released on September 17, 2026.

How modded cars work in ETS2

• They don’t replace any truck. They’re separate vehicles: you buy them at any truck dealer, through the mod dealer entrance, by picking the car’s brand. After that you manage them like one of your own trucks.
• You drive them without a trailer. They’re for exploring the map, taking photos or taking a break between jobs. The exception is the BMW 6 Series GT G32, which according to its author supports compatible trailers and includes a caravan.
• Use every gear. On many of Nimit’s cars, top speed is only reached in sixth or seventh gear. The Subaru is a manual, so it’s a good idea to set the transmission to manual in the options.
• Where to download them. From the author’s thread on the SCS forum or their ModLand account; the final file sits on an external host (usually Modsfire) that shows ads: click only the file’s download button. The Volkswagen Parati is on Steam Workshop.
• Multiplayer. None of these mod pages confirm they work on TruckersMP. In the official multiplayer, Convoy, all players need the same mods; we explain it in ETS2 online.

Overview: the best car mods for ETS2

They’re all free and none of them need DLC. On several of Nimit’s cars the ModLand page shows «1.60.x», but the author’s changelog says 1.61.

Sports cars and sedans

Porsche 911 Turbo S (991.2)

The 2016 911 Turbo S is Nimit’s most viewed car on the official SCS forum. Its 0 to 100, 200, 250 and 300 km/h times are close to the real ones, and it comes with two interiors and up to eight types of beacons with sirens in case you want to set up an escort car. It’s rear-wheel drive: go easy on the throttle in tight corners. If the suspension feels soft, the author suggests the g_suspension_stiffness_1 console command.

BMW M5 G90 and 6 Series GT

The M5 G90 is BMW M’s latest sports sedan, with acceleration tuned to the real car and a black or red interior; to hit top speed you need seventh gear. The 6 Series GT G32 is more laid-back: black or cognac upholstery, a working clock in the instrument cluster and, above all, the option to tow a caravan.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class W223

The S-Class is the pick for the highway: its own digital cluster, five wheel designs and a comfort sound mode you turn on by holding the light horn key for one second. One user has commented that with version 2.3 the truck cabins feel softer; if that happens to you, disable the car while you’re driving a truck.

Cadillac, Subaru and Mazda

The Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon is a station wagon with sports car mechanicals, six gears and three interior colors. The Subaru Impreza WRX STI weighs around 50 MB and has a manual gearbox. The Mazda MX-5 NA is the most customizable: four engines, soft top or hardtop, hoods, bumpers, wheels and a Mazdaspeed steering wheel.

Off-roaders and SUVs

• Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG: the G-Class with AMG mechanicals and one of the author’s lightest cars (around 62 MB).
• Land Rover Defender 110: the one with the most garage upgrades, with a snorkel, roof box, toolbox and ladder.
• Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Land Cruiser 200: the first is modern and comfortable; the second has a 5.7-liter V8 and stock, facelift and VXR versions with lots of accessories.
• BMW X5 G05 and Porsche Cayenne Turbo: premium SUVs with two interior trims. On the Cayenne, the instrument cluster only partly works.
• Range Rover L460 and Bentley Bentayga StarTech: luxury for sightseeing routes. They’re the heaviest (282 and 187 MB).
• Ford Explorer Platinum: a seven-seat SUV that’s very common in Latin America; its cluster reads miles per hour, like the US model.

A Brazilian classic: Volkswagen Parati

The 1994 Volkswagen Parati is by Cristhian Cardoso, not Nimit. It comes with AP 1.8 and turbo engines, a five-speed gearbox and new physics based on the original car since its September 2026 update. It installs from Steam Workshop and needs the same author’s car passengers mod, which Steam marks as required.

Which car should you choose?

• For cruising highways at your own pace: the Mercedes S-Class or the BMW X5, comfortable and with their own digital clusters.
• For going fast: the Porsche 911 Turbo S or the BMW M5, with acceleration tuned to the real cars.
• For back roads and rural maps: the Land Rover Defender or the Land Cruiser 200, with lots of garage parts. They’re a great fit for the Iberia DLC’s roads, which we cover in the ETS2 Iberia DLC.
• For tuning: the Mazda MX-5 NA, with swappable hoods, bumpers, spoilers and roofs.
• If you’re short on space: the Volkswagen Parati (11 MB), the Cadillac (49 MB) or the Subaru (51 MB).
• If you want to tow something: the BMW 6 Series GT, the only one that comes with a caravan.

Since almost all of them are by the same author, they’re installed and bought the same way: once you’ve tried one, the rest are no mystery.

Cars in traffic (not drivable)

If what you want is to see more cars around you, not drive them, you need traffic mods. Jazzycat’s AI Traffic Pack adds 473 cars to AI traffic, and AI Traffic No Default SCS Cars removes SCS’s own so the pack’s cars show up more. To adjust the density there’s Real Traffic Density. Installation and common problems

1. Download the car from the official page linked on its mod page and extract the .scs file if it comes compressed.
2. Copy it to Documents/Euro Truck Simulator 2/mod and enable it in the Mod Manager.
3. In your save, go to a truck dealer, open the mod dealer entrance, pick the brand and buy the car.
4. Assign it to yourself as your vehicle and stop by the garage to choose the interior, wheels or accessories.

If the Mod Manager flags it as incompatible, check that the game is on 1.61 and that the download comes from the author, not from an old copy on another site. Only with mods. SCS hasn’t added official cars to ETS2; the official Car Mode from Road Trip is for American Truck Simulator.
