The realistic mods for ETS2 that make the biggest difference on version 1.61 are a physics mod (Ultra Realistic Truck Physics & Cabin Motion or Realistic Truck Physics), a single weather and graphics mod (New Summer, Realistic Weather System or Kass’s ones), Brutal Traffic with a car pack such as Jazzycat’s, a rebalanced economy and a few light and sound tweaks. The key isn’t to install lots of them, but not to repeat a category: two weather mods or two physics mods cancel each other out. Below you’ll find what each one changes, what clashes with what and a recommended pack. They’re all free; we point out the ones with paid extras.
Physics: how the truck moves
This is the change you notice most with a wheel and in the interior camera. Pick one:
- Realistic Truck Physics (Frkn64, 9.2, ETS2 1.60 and 1.61): reworks chassis suspension, cab movement and trailer suspension, smooths the interior camera and simulates axle torque. Compatible with the game’s trucks and with Convoy. The free version only covers SCS trucks; the paid Ultimate Pack (Patreon) adds driving profiles and support for mod trucks. It asks you to set the stability and suspension settings to 100%.
- Ultra Realistic Truck Physics & Cabin Motion (Kass, 3.0, 1.61): springs and damping based on real trucks, more cab roll and pitch, weight transfer under braking and less grip in the wet. Stated to be compatible with all trucks. Free.
Its page makes it clear: two physics mods modify the same values and the one placed higher overrides the other.
Weather and graphics: pick one base
This is where the most common mistake happens. These mods change the weather, lighting or vegetation, and they don’t combine with each other:
- New Summer (Grimes, 6.8, 1.61): more vegetation, denser grass, more realistic lighting and wet roads that take a while to dry. Works with ProMods and all map DLCs. Free with a download via ShareMods; $1 ad-free and a separate Seasons Pack for $2.99.
- Frosty Winter Weather Mod (Grimes, 10.8, 1.61): full winter, with snow instead of rain, frozen ground, snowy roofs and winter daylight hours. Compatible with ProMods and RusMap. Same optional payment scheme as New Summer. Not used at the same time as New Summer.
- Realistic Weather System (Lionv8, 3.0, 1.61): ten types of rain and storms with probabilities by area based on real climate data, a more slippery road and more drops on the windshield. It doesn’t touch the sky or the overall lighting: it’s the most restrained option if you only want better rain.
- Realistic Brutal Graphics & Weather Winter Snow (Kass, 4.3, 1.61): the winter version of Realistic Brutal Graphics and Weather, with snow, variable fog, night skies with moon phases and dynamic thunder. Compatible with most maps and with Convoy. It doesn’t combine with the regular Realistic Brutal Graphics.
Add-ons that do stack
- Yet Another Rain Mod (1.58 to 1.61): only changes raindrops, window masks and glass settings, so it coexists with weather mods. It goes above them.
- Realistic Rain Reflections Standalone (Grimes, 1.4, 1.60 and 1.61): puddles and reflections on asphalt and sidewalks. It works on its own or on top of another weather mod, but with New Summer you must use its seasons version, and it’s not compatible with Frosty Winter. Free; $1 ad-free.
- Better Raindrops (Avelium): reworked raindrops, rain sound and wipers. Version for 1.60; check its thread to see whether there’s one for 1.61 yet.
Lighting
- Realistic Vehicle Lights (Frkn64, 7.7, 1.60 and 1.61): high-resolution flares, longer headlight range and better reflections, for your truck and for traffic. Visual only and compatible with Convoy. Don’t enable it together with the same author’s Non-Flared Vehicle Lights.
- Better Flares (Avelium, 4.8, 1.61): flares for headlights, taillights and turn signals, more realistic light patterns and optional add-ons for streetlights and traffic. The traffic add-on needs Drive Safely’s Sound Fixes Pack; Jazzycat’s and TrafficManiac’s packs require patches.
Both rework light flares, so the safe bet is to stick with one. Their pages don’t document the combination.
Sound
- Realistic Rain & Water & Thunder Sounds (Kass, 10.8, 1.61): more than 40 thunderclaps with different sound inside and outside the cab, splashes and water effects. Heads-up: it also changes visual effects, and Kass’s Winter Snow has had its own thunder since 4.2. If you combine them, test it first on a separate profile.
- Iveco Cursor Stock Sounds (1.0, 1.56 to 1.61): real sound of the stock Cursor engines for SCS’s Stralis, Stralis Hi-Way and S-Way, with ZF retarder.
- Previous Soundproofing (Drive Safely): brings back cab soundproofing similar to 1.42. Stated up to 1.60; on 1.61 it isn’t confirmed.
For other trucks there are stock sounds such as DAF Paccar MX-13 (1.60) or Scania V8 Stock Sound (check the version on its page). Fixed rule: only one sound mod per truck model.
Traffic
These stack in layers: one changes the behavior and others add vehicles.
- Brutal Traffic (Kass, 8.4, 1.61): believable traffic jams, AI that brakes and keeps its distance naturally, density by time of day and reaction to the weather. It doesn’t add vehicles. It requires
g_traffic 1and doesn’t combine with other density or behavior mods. - Jazzycat’s AI Traffic Pack (21.8.15, 1.61): 473 cars, SUVs and vans, plus police from 11 countries. About 730 MB.
- AI Traffic No Default SCS Cars and Trucks: remove SCS vehicles from traffic so the ones from your packs show up. The cars one doesn’t work without an active car pack.
- Mr Larrington’s Traffic And Trailer Pack (1.61.0): double trailers, B-doubles and HCT combinations in traffic. Its Base module is mandatory. The ProMods version (1.60.0) doesn’t have a version for 1.61 yet.
Economy
Only one of these two:
- Realistic Economy [Quper] (1.50 to 1.61): freight rates, loans by level, diesel prices updated by the author, real exchange rates and faster tire wear. The author recommends a new profile.
- RAGNAROK Economy (1.2.2, 1.61): income more closely tied to level and cargo type, more expensive fines and wear, reworked used market. Compatible with ProMods 2.84 (Middle East not yet). It doesn’t require a new profile; when updating from 1.2.1 you have to reset the economy with
g_force_economy_reset 1.
For immersion, Real companies & gas stations (1.48 to 1.61) replaces the fictional companies with real ones. It doesn’t combine with other real company or gas station mods.

Recommended pack for 1.61
A coherent combination with no overlaps, in Mod Manager order (top to bottom):
- Real companies & gas stations
- Realistic Economy [Quper] (new profile) or RAGNAROK Economy
- Yet Another Rain Mod
- New Summer (in winter, swap it for Frosty Winter)
- Realistic Vehicle Lights
- Ultra Realistic Truck Physics & Cabin Motion
- Brutal Traffic
- AI Traffic Pack + No Default SCS Cars
- Your maps, with ProMods at the bottom
If you prefer Kass’s ecosystem, replace New Summer with his Realistic Brutal Graphics and Weather (his physics is designed to go with it) or, in winter, with the Winter Snow version. Before anything else, check the ETS2 mod load order and make sure your PC meets the ETS2 requirements, because weather and dense traffic are demanding.
